Thanks for your advice Andrew.

My further experimentation:
On the Vista 64 machine (which has 6GB memory) B&B and Vista64 seems to work without the VST/Dxi using the Midi driver but with any Real Tracks produces an error indicating that the beatmap BT0 is incorrect which results in a lock up.

Also clicking the icon for either B&B or Real Band on the external “Everything Pak” gives an error(s) although clicking on the icons on the desktop will make them run. The errors when attempting to run from the PG external disc are numerous such as:

For Real Band
a)Your computer crashed last time you ran RealBand
b)Cannot create file OrigTB.ini
c)List index out of bounds
d)Access violation etc

For B&B
a) Band in Box has stopped working etc

Note that I have no problems running the programs from the icons on the PG external disc on the Vista 32 machine.

I have seemed to overcome the missing drum note messages in the XP and Vista comps, don’t ask me how, but they no longer appear ??? The wavetable message still appears on the Vista 32 comp but I will now look into this.

By Jingo all this negative talk!! For all who are reading this and do not have B&B and Real Band believe me these programs once up and running are stupendous! Especially with the Realtracks and Realdrums, a massive quantum jump over what B&B could produce prior to 2008.5. Simply outstanding. Thanks Peter and the team!.
