Thanks for all that, Sonny. It is a sobering thing to be in a prison - for any reason...

How long were you in Tampa? I was at USF at the time. My main gigs were The Proud Lion Pub (on Fletcher?) - where I had a huge following because I was the only one around doing Jimmy Buffett then - and his fans found me... and Rough Riders in Ybor City (in the old cigar factory) - back when it was still considered "the bad side of town"...

I lived there for four years working and going to USF (eventually graduated) and then moved to Chattanooga. One of my many side jobs there was delivering donuts for Krispy Kreme and I use to deliver to Ybor City (yeah the bad side of town) and I would trade donuts for fresh Cuban bread at this one place where they were baking it. My sister-in-law still lives there and we visit sometimes (my how Ybor City has changed).

Man, so strong, I don't know if this is what you're saying in your text before the song but to me this conveys a deep anger that I've felt myself from time to time before( a problem with authority?, but I'm peaceful) and I've felt it come thru from Springsteen and very few other artists before. The power in the images, the rhymes are secondary, not even important, all the balance is there. It's such a good write and performance and I swear I can't get thru one whole song from any of todays successful top selling artists but I can listen to your songs over and over, where's the justice eh? Another great one. Good use of how you bring in the instruments.

Man, do you ever get the max out of every RT that you use.
My first and lasting impression of this was that a "band" sat
around and worked this up. Everything and I mean all of
the RT's (and the RD) are so amazingly cohesive. You produce
clinics for any BIAB deniers out there. Clinics that would
make them run to PGMusic and pony up. The RT selection, the
mix and the mastering are waaaaaay off the charts good.

Reckon I need to shut up and get to the write and the vocal.
The write is a great example of your style of "less is more." Pared
down to the essentials...yet vibrant in the imagery. I wanna learn
how to do that when I grow up smile

And vocal? I'll appropriate Mario's words "I really like the lyrics and
how you captured the pain and fear in your vocals as well as the dynamic
build up." Yep.

Made me listen twice, pull back the chair, stare at the iMac and
ponder...how the hell does he do that?

I can't say I enjoyed my listen, it haunted me. And the lead perfectly fit this mood.
Another masterpiece.

Guenter - thanks... appreciate that. Music should affect us - one way or another...

As usual, fully professional recording and performance.

Hi ROG - good to see ya around. Appreciate the listen... Y'all ought to have something to listen to here, soon, no?

Good lyrics on a not so every day subject.

Rob and Anne-Marie

Thanks, y'all... That is a cool RT - and can carry a song by itself for the most part. It's a good alternative to the usual acoustic guitar thing...

It's already been said - great write, excellent arrangement.

In particular, I liked the steady pace of the song and the gradual build, which matches the claustrophobic feel of the lyrics.

I think you really stirred up a lot of emotions in the forum with this one. I too can relate to the stories and sentiment. I visited a friend in prison several times. What a sad experience. I don't think I could ever write about it.
Great songwriting, performance and production.

floyd,

This is outstanding work (yet again). I've never been in prison but it seems to me that you've really captured the essence of what it's like to be locked away from society. Like some others have mentioned, the line "between steps you hear your cigarette burn" is very powerful.

The arrangement is brilliant... really well planned and developed.

All in all... a terrific listen.

Noel

Hi, Floyd !

I do live quite close to
a former county jail that
has been turned into
a hotel with a terrace they call
"Jailbird" ! They have very good food
at the restaurant but visiting there
always gives me the creeps!

Tourists love to come there and
maybe even more to leave ....(for some reason !)):)

So, you can see why your tune is so interesting
but of course there is always the darker side
of the action !

I liked your tune very much !

Cheers

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo.
