Hello,

I'm in BIAB 2012 (Windows 10 64) and set up a repeat, but it only plays correctly the first time. The second time around it just plays the first chord of the cycle all the way through. Checked the settings, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks,

J

Are tracks frozen?
If you had a song which was then frozen, and you added repeats etc, then the changes would not play unless the tracks were unfrozen, and then regenerated.

Jon,

Have 1st/2nd time repeats worked for you in the past or are you experimenting with them now for the first time?

Regards,
Noel

Hello VT,

Thanks for your reply. I was not aware of the "freeze" function and have not intentionally set it. Where would I check on that setting?

If tracks are frozen, you see an asterisk (snowflake = frozen, get it) next to the name of the track.

If you right-click on a track name (say, Drums) you will see the freeze choices near the bottom of that menu.

If you right-click on the Master track, you can freeze/unfreeze all tracks together.

Hi Dave, to follow on from Matt's good advice:

No kidding? I never noticed that in the mixer. I've been doing it since before the GUI change and didn't see the new method. Cool.

Thanks, I'll check that at work. I have my doubts though, because it does play one chord at least the second time around.

Hello Everyone,

I was using 2012 Ultraplus and found a 2014 trial upgrade, which I installed. Now the repeat APPEARS to be working, when BIAB has actually gone on to the next chords in the song while visually appearing to stay on the repeat.

Are you able to see this on this screenshot video I have shared in Google Drive? (also, no snowflake icons).

Thanks so much again!

Hmmm

What happens if you select Unfold then generate again? (Perhaps also save with a different name)

That doesn't help either. The song still plays back in the same way, ignoring the repeat and going on to invisible chord lines.

OK, I see what the problem is (but I don't know why).

On the first of the 4x repeat, bar 5 plays Dm11 and bar 6 plays Em11.
Then on the second of the 4x repeat it plays Dm11 for both bars 5 & 6

A picture is worth a thousand words. I wouldn't have figured the problem without that video

I'm going to try to repeat. I'll be back

Trev

Sounds good. I might need that function some day, though this time I was able to get by with just copying and pasting the repeats. Thanks so much again!

OK, I'm back.
I created the same song and got a different (but still incorrect) result. For the 4 repeated bars, mine played:

5 : Dm11, Em11, Dm11, Em11
9 : Em11, Em11, Em11, Em11,
13: Em11, Em11, Em11, Em11,
17: Em11, Em11, Em11, Em11,

However, it depends on how you assign the repeats.

Eventually after a few tries, here's how I did it and it worked perfectly:

1: Enter the song without the 4 bar repeats (just enter the 4 bars starting on bar 5) it will look like A: below

2: Set the repeats as in B: below

3: The songs displays as in C: below and each of the chords on the repeats work correctly

More than one way to deliver most things. I get amazed when I see different ways that others utilize various features. E.g., Since the new GUI came along I don't recall ever using the right-click on the track name to freeze a track. Nevertheless it's been there the whole time. Same result, just different delivery method.

Maybe there'll even be MORE surprises soon, too!

Wow, thanks so much for all the work put in here and for the detailed response. I had NOT been checking that box at the bottom and I don't think I ever even noticed it.

The repeat works now, as it should. Is it just me, does anyone think this needs a warning box or perhaps be the default setting?

Kind Regards,

J

It's amazing what you can look right at every day for years and not see.

Hi Jonn
I searched help and online videos and didn't find the method I eventually used. I guess it comes down to the massive functionality that has been added over 25 years of development.
There is a popup hint though, and that did give me the clue I needed.
