I think the server load does matter. I noticed that links on the same server were faster a week or so before the new release.
The provider may be throttling the download to help with stability. Or load balancing to secondary servers even. I bet their download servers are doing a lot of work for the last few days.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
