Good.

Question: You say you are loading only the first of eight installation files. Are all the other seven just RealTracks and bonus paks? If not, load it too.

Matt, Yes the other files are real tracks, loops, and bonus pack.

Well, that's at least one issue out of the way smile
(that it isn't related to win7)

It seems like there is something on my original desktop that is making my life miserable for sure.

Could it be the opposite? Not that you have something, but that you are missing something?

I know, in regards to other software, that sometimes if they are compiled with new compilers, they may suddenly require certain windows addons to be installed.

I think they're called something like "C runtime [this or that number/revision]"

I don't think windows always knows if they're missing. Usually a vendor includes them in their download or makes it so that the software fetches them at install-time. Could that perhaps be an issue?

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to test for such an issue, but when talking with support maybe you could ask them if they switched compilers for BIAB2016 and if it therefore needs new windows-dependencies.

That is possible, Andrew from PG music got in via remote control tonight and ran several tests on it. I think he has some ideas about what the problem could be. I should find out tomorrow or later in the week.

I have the same problem as the OP.
I'm upgrading from Biab 2015 to Biab 2016 on WIndows 7

Biab 2015 works fine, Biab 2016 crashes while starting up.

Hello Zonno,
There are several people at PG Music working on this problem so I think it will be resolved soon. I appreciate your post as I thought I was the only one seeing this.

A little update on this problem. After much testing and work by the PG Music staff, they discovered the issue was being caused by my display setting being at 16 bit color. (I have no idea why this was at 16bit) They sent me a test .exe file and it worked fine to launch the program.

I changed my display to 32bit and went back to the original upgrade files, install went great right over the top of my old 2014 Biab. I'm running everything from there now just like a normal person.

I want to thank everyone who replied to this thread and assisted
in getting this working for me!

That really is quite a story. I haven't thought about16-bit color since Windows 98. If this happened to you, it will no doubt happen to others.

Remember when you said Safe Mode worked? Safe Mode runs without loading certain drivers, including your vendor's video driver.

Yes, we will include a fix in the next patch, so that it works with 16 bit color selected as well.

In the meantime setting windows colors to the usual 32 bit fixes it, and most people have this set as the default.

Start > Control Panel > Display > Change display settings > Advance settings > Monitor, and look at the "Colors" drop-down menu at the bottom-left.

Have Fun!
