Hi Guys

I have windows BinaB UltraPluspak installed on two computers hard drives--full installations on both machines

I ordered the windows 2016 UltraPluspak and was told to just install it over the top of my current set ups

I have just received the USB hard drive and tried to run it to install all the programmes

However my Norton 360 blocks it and has removed some programme icons from the USB hard drive

It doesn't work in either computer

If I open this USB hard drive to view all the files both the Setup icon and Band in a Box .exe icon are no longer present

In fact if I go into the Norton 360 history it says

Download Insight analysed Band in a Box. exe and removed it—reason—reputation level BAD

It also says it has removed the “SETUP” programme as again reputation level BAD

As far as I can see I am unable to load the contents of the USB hard drive as I cant get the setup icon back

I have emailed support but wonder if anyone else has had problems installing with Norton 360 installed as I assume I wont get a reply till Monday west coast time.

I have disabled Norton 360 but this makes no difference

All my previous installs of BinaB have worked with Norton 360 running

Phil,

Norton has a reputation for getting it wrong with BIAB. It hasn't happened for a little while on the forums but there have been a few instances similar to yours over the years. The thing with Norton is that it doesn't seem to ask for user input when it finds a file it suspects. It simply deletes it.

From what you describe, it sounds like your "setup.exe" and "Band-In-A-Box.exe" are no longer on your USB drive. There might be an option with the Norton software to undelete the files. Have you looked for this?

You can double check if the files have really been deleted by simply opening the USB drive in Windows explorer.

In the meantime, if you bought the program through PG Music, the program components should be listed in your PGM account. Maybe the files you need are there and can be reloaded onto the USB drive.

Also, rather than waiting for an email reply, try using Live Help. That's manned throughout PGM's opening hours and is a good way of getting in touch with the company.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. I see Dan answered while I was typing. Seems like we had the same idea.

When I discovered how much control the Norton Utilities gave me over my PC, I coulda kissed the guy on the mouth. After my license for a full Norton/Symantec suite expired 15 years later I uninstalled it and have used freeware ever since. It consumed system resources and offered very little control. If you can afford to dump Norton, I would. I have used Avast Free for years with no issues whatsoever.

Hi Guys

Tx for your replies

If I go into the Norton 360 history it shows that the setup.exe file is in quarantine with a very high risk tag as it includes

SAPE.Heur.A5BE2

BinaB. exe has been completely removed and is not even in quarantine

I think I will wait to hear from support before I try to restore the setup.exe file-----assuming it will let me

Norton is Notorious for false positives. I use it but I have been caught. When I plugged my new PGM supplied Audiophile drive in the other week, Norton immediately removed setup.exe from the drive! Claimed it had a virus. I just instructed Norton to restore it, and proceeded with the install.

However, do check with support. If you downloaded there's always an opportunity to have a file infected. Better safe than sorry.

If you plan on keeping Norton, I would go in and configure it to quarantine, rather than delete suspected files. That way, if you believe them to be safe, you can recover them and Norton will flag them accordingly.

I don't use Norton, but every other anti-virus program I've used allows you do to this.

When you quarantine, it moves the files to an area of the hard drive where the file can't cause any problem (other than it's present on the hard drive). The anti-virus software will keep it from running and wreaking havoc on your machine. You should then be able to go look at the quarantined files and select which ones are false positives.

I turned Norton 360 OFF (Firewall & Auto Protect)
Then ran F:\Setup.exe
Norton still permanently deleted Setup.exe

I've used Norton AV before and it caused me more trouble than I can and want to list in this post. I know, this does not help your problem, but, one of the happiest computer days in my life was when I uninstalled Norton completely and went with something free. Nowadays, I use SpyHunter 4 ... 6 month subscriptions, mind you, but well worth it to me.

There is some great free AV software out there... AVAST has been mentioned. I've used it and it works great. Might be time for you to consider cutting the umbilical cord between you and Norton.

That's just my humble opinion.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Mike

Actually I do seem to have another issue

I have loaded everything onto one of my PC's and everything works--plays songs--lets you enter chords etc etc BUT when I go to "Options" and then " Preferences " ( wanted to change the font style) whatever I click on completely freezes the PC and the only way I can get out of Binab is via Task Manager to shut down the whole programme.

Have done a factory Reset but no difference

Have not put it on the second PC till I get a reply from Support

Anyone else had this ????

A second factory reset has fixed everything on the " Preferences" page except the "Display " button which still freezes the whole PC

This happened on some systems, and is fixed in the Build 429 update:
http://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/support/patches/bb2016_update_build429.exe

Regarding Norton deleting the Setup file on the hard drives, thanks for reporting that. It's been a while since that has come up, and we will be sure to submit our newest exe to Norton for whitelisting.

That's very weird !!!

When I was in Binab I got a message saying that 429 was available and clicked download and install--BUT when I went to the help icon and found my system number it still said 427

I have now gone to the main site to download 429 and its now all sorted

Thanks for all your help guys

Beachboy,

Did your problem with Norton ever get resolved? I am about to install BIAB 2016 and I do have Norton 360 (which I have never had any trouble with and have been using it for years).

Andrew,

Can you confirm that this Norton issue with the setup file being deleted has been resolved? I am about to install BIAB 2016 and I have Norton 360 (never had any problems with it).

Jim,

From what's written above, before installing, save a copy of Setup.exe and "Band In A Box.exe". It seems that these were the two files that Norton deleted. (I imagine that these files were on the USB drive.) Whatever happens, you then be able to get the installation files back if you need to.

Let us know how you go!

Regards,
Noel

Hi Guys Sorry for late reply--was trying to get out of Boston back to the UK when the snow hit--Back home now

I have resolved the issues with Norton 360

I found the files that Norton 360 had removed in their quarantine file and just told Norton to reinstate them

That fixed everything

I do have another slight issue about my previous created songs showing odd instrument patches when I now play them with 2016 but that's for another post
