I presently use a Bose L1 Compact. I mic my guitar through the mic channel and use the other channel to play my BIAB tracks through a looper pedal. Right now I'm strictly instrumental; however, I'm thinking of adding a mic to the mix for talking to the crowd, and possibly to add vocals in the future. I know the Bose T1 ToneMatch is designed specifically for the Bose units, and it would also give me effects like reverb, delay etc. The price is a little steep, but I'm wondering if it is worth the investment. I know there are other Bose users on this forum, and I would appreciate any input.

Thanks for any help.

Frank

Bose gear has always been pricey gear. Of course, it also sounds good. So you have to weigh the cost vs the sound and going outside of the Bose world for other options.

Personally, I think there are other options that would work at a lower price. However, since you're already in the Bose camp, why not stay there and get the gear you need.

At some future point, if you buy something that's not Bose you'll probably kick yourself in the butt.

I use a Bose LII with "ToneMatch" for weekly live gigs. I also use am 8 channel mixer for my eConcerts as I am just too lazy to swap out systems once/twice week. In my opinion there is no matching the tone and clarity the "ToneMatch" gives me on my vocals with any mixer setup I have. IMHO the vocals through the "ToneMatch" is way superior to the same through a regular mixer.

another consideration is that the tonematch is small, designed specifically to be used with the L1, and unless you already have another mixer, it's probably the one to buy. I think it can even be mounted to the tower, thereby eliminating stands or rack cases needed to raise the mixer up to user level. So it scores a 10 in sound quality and convenience, and maybe a 5 in price. Your call.

So while we're on the topic of Bose - which I love but not always my budget will allow - which alternatives do you guys like for sound, design/convenience (hard to beat bose there) and better price ?

As is usually the case, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you're playing in a small cafe, as background music, the Bose is fine. If you're playing crowded bars, I've found that the Bose systems just don't cut it. Most of the sound is eaten up by the first two rows of people.

You need to get mains up on stands, above the heads of the crowd.

IMO, the best small system for a single/duo would be a small format mixer into two powered speakers. QSC, JBL, etc. are making some great powered units. The Yamaha DBR12 is getting a lot of love from some engineers. 1000 watts at 35#'s.

You really do get what you pay for.
