Just poking around in BIAB 2016 and trying to set up the new preferences. I can't seem to get the chord size down to where it was in 2015. The font size doesn't appear to have any effect, (under custom). Has anyone else seen this?

Also, are there any pre-made color schemes available? It's nice to have the options to change colors etc. but sometimes it's easier to just pick a pre-made scheme and move on.

Thanks.

Hi Paul
I can help with the first part. I get the same thing. A real pain in the !!!. Not been properly thought out IMO.
There IS a workaround. Every time I boot BIAB I get a screen font that looks like this -

Go Options - Prefs - Display and do the actions on my arrows. You can see behind it that the font has changed to something not SO humongous.

AFAIK there is no way that it SAVES it. I have tried. Boy, have I tried! So, you will have to do it every time you boot up BIAB.
But it works - for me.

Hi Ian.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I found that in the Prefs and I do think you can save it in the schemes, (lower left corner) but the chords are still bigger than in 2015. I should have made some notes before I upgraded. It seems like it gets down to 10 or 12 point font size but won't get any smaller. It's certainly not a deal breaker but when you're old like me, change is hard. LOL

Thanks.

Paul,

Another setting to try is to click on Chord Display (#1, below) and then select a suitable font. Following the 1, 2, 3 on the image will guide you through what I mean.

Ah Ha! Thanks Noel. I'll check that out after I install the 429 patch this afternoon. I'm kind of curious why settings like this would not carry forward to an upgrade?

Merry Christmas all!

That's a fair question, but I think we should cut PG Music some slack because the Chordsheet is a complete rewrite in this 2016 version. We're finding little things as a result, but they are also fixing them as we call them to their attention. You can always send an email to support@pgmusic.com and make sure they see a particular thing.

We'll get there.

Absolutely! I was just wondering. I don't remember if setting carried forward last time or not.

Ah Ha! Thanks Noel. I'll check that out after I install the 429 patch this afternoon.

The Chord Display button gives me some of the same options as in Preferences although I noticed that the first option, "Choose Font for Chord Display" does not appear to work, (at least on my system).

I still can't get the font size to work, Arial custom. doesn't matter what font size I choose, the chords size doesn't change. I must be doing something wrong. I need to start taking notes with these new versions.

Edit: Something else I noticed. I have all font options set to Arial but when I switch to the notation page, it's using the PG standard font instead. I think there was another page that was the same. Interesting...

Thanks.

Paul

Paul, try running BBW.EXE As Administrator. Does that fix it?

Paul,

I wonder if it might be the "Auto adjust rows" setting in Display Options.

Try the following settings for 1, 2, 3 and see if it changes things...

When the "Auto adjust rows" is disabled, the font will adjust its size depending on how many rows per screen are present.

Just another idea.

Noel

Thanks Noel. I'll give this a try. I wonder if the "Chord Font Size %" might be the culprit?

In Display click Auto adjust rows - then set MIN to 4 and MAX to around 16 - just try between 14 - 18 to suit - this seems to adjust the chord font height
Make sure you have a tune selected with say 32+ bars to get the right effect
Unfortunately this is a temporary per session and on restart it goes back to bad
This needs a PG Music fix

Didn't seem to make any difference. Nothing changes. I also noticed that I don't have the "Chord Font Size %" option. Wonder why that is?

Paul,

What screen resolution are you running?

Also, Paul... check under "Help | About Band In A Box" to see if the update 429 installed correctly. If it has, your version will be listed as 2016(429).

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel.

1920 X 1080 (native)

I checked after I installed that patch but will check again.

I brought in a project I had started in 2015 and using Arial Narrow I'm able to work OK. Interestingly enough though, I have to go to Preferences|Display and select my saved settings each time I open a new project.

Paul,

I'm not at my BIAB computer at the moment...

If I recall correctly.... if one clicks the "x" on the upper right of the settings page, I don't think that the settings save. If the "OK" button is used, the settings are saved. Could that explain what might be happening?

Regards,
Noel

Try Limiting the max number of rows rather than maxing it, this has limited but a benficial effect here. Opening layers interferes.

I've tried a few settings. It seems that in the moment the font is always the same size, regardless of settings and native font sizes. Id est, select one of the small size fonts in your system an it will be displayed in full window size.

I have just changed the font to Comic Sans (which I find most visually clear),
and I changed the display background, using the Chord Display Button menu (not prefs). It's worked.

I go to the chord display area of prefs and I can see the Button which is the RHS of Choose font, it states CHords(main)=PGCHords. Underneath it states Chordsheet Font Comic Sans MS.

What is the difference between a chord font 'main' and a chordsheet font?

I am baffled.

Anyone?

Z

FOOTNOTE: I can see reasons why a font must change if the number of bars on a screen changes, font size should slave to the size of a bar. It must not be bigger at least. I think this is part of this.
