The problem is it was not, AFAIK, designed to work for inporting XML. That I think is the problem.

I'm definitely not taking sides, but the 2016 version has options for both "Saving a MusicXML file" and also "Opening a MusicXML file". Notwithstanding, it's early days, and I'm sure any issues will be resolved in the fullness of time.
