I'm am trying to make a backing track of Adele's Hello in BIAB. I know the original is in Fm but I am doing it in Em which suits my voice better. I have something passable but the piano track is adding extra notes I don't need. The piano track has two chords per bar played as a dotted crotchet and then a quaver slurred into a minim. The count goes Em (1-2-3) G (1-2-3-4-5), D (1-2-3) Cadd2 (1-2-3-4-5) etc. To get the dotted crotched I am using a 1/8 note push on the G on beat 3: The chord sheet looks like this: But the notation looks like this - I have circled in red the extra notes I am getting: The question is how do I get rid of the extra notes? I suspect it may be to do with the style I have chosen but I cannot find a better alternative - Adele's Hello (one of the most popular songs of 2015) does not appear in the stylepicker familiar song list - maybe it could be added in a patch? I have also tried simplifying the piano track and that makes no difference. Many Thanks Rec

What you are getting is based on the style you selected.
Those "extra" notes are notes that have defined as part of the style. I suspect they were probably originally quarter notes, but since you inserted the "1/8 note push", the quarter note on the beat is getting replaced by an 8th note on the beat, followed by the push (on the and of the beat), as it should be.
I suspect you'll need to find a style that plays the rhythm you are looking for all on the same chord, so when you later do the push, it still plays it that way.
It's work to do, but you could also always load the style into StyleMaker and look at the patterns to see if there is something there you like better, delete the patterns you don't want, then save as a new style (so you don't overwrite the original style).
Or find a MIDI file of the song with the rhythm you are looking for and use the MIDI Style Wizard to create the piano part.
Easiest would probably be to find a different style. But it does take time to find the right sound.

Rec, just read up on the Stylemaker. You can take that style and just rewrite that chord or delete it and then save the style as Adele1 or whatever.
People seem to completely overlook the fact that all the supplied styles are really just starting templates. You can edit them however you like.

See if this helps and let us know how it works out for you. At the bottom of the list of videos under the "Advanced" section, you'll find a 37 minute video on using StyleMaker. http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

Thanks jford, jazzmammal and jazzmandan for your help and useful advice.
I completely overlooked the Stylemaker, doh! Which has reminded me to add another New Year's resolution to the ever growing list...try to learn more of the BIAB features. I probably use about 10% of what it is capable of.
I will let you know how I get on with Hello.
Thanks again, Rec

Rec,
Another handy tool is Piano Roll View. Right clicking on any note opens a drop-down menu which includes delete, cut/paste, etc. You can change several main parameters of any note.

Don Useful, many thanks Don. Rec Don brings up a good point. What you are trying to do is easier in MIDI than with RTs. With MIDI you can put the chords exactly where you want them and for the duration that you choose. You can also change the chords to any inversion you want and/or add or delete notes to the chord. You can do some of those things with RTs with cut, paste and cross fading but that may leave gaps in your RT. Note that both methods not only take a little work but also the knowledge to make it happen. IMHO MIDI is the easiest way to go.

Mario augments my thought.
I neglected to mention - work with a MIDI file. I don't read music so, using T&E (Trial & Error) I have successfully edited an entire song. RTs are audio so not editable without skilled microsurgery beyond the scope of this discussion. In MIDI, every parameter is editable.
An afterthought: Chord progressions are not copyright so you COULD legally load an audio file of Adele's, run it through ACW (Auto Chord Wizard) to ID the chords, then transpose to suit and all within the law.
Also, take a squint at EDITABLE NOTATION. You can do most MIDI editing from that screen.

Thanks MarioD and Don.
Funnily enough, I most often make backing tracks in Sonar using any decent MIDI files I can find as a starting point and remap them onto the high quality instruments I have in SampleTank 3, Addictive Drums 2 etc. Then make any edits etc as necessary and export as a WAV file. The purpose is to play guitar and sing live along to the backing tracks.
For Hello though I couldn't find a decent MIDI piano track so I thought I would try and produce one in BIAB. I do have a MIDI controller keyboard which I occasionally use to enter instrument parts but it was taking me, as a guitarist, too much time/effort to play the Hello piano parts (at least to my satisfaction).
I take your point about making the track using MIDI rather than RTs and will see what I can do on that basis.
Thanks Rec P.S. Just tried the Audio Chord Wizard - not impressed with the results.

Quick update - tried changing the style to C_SWEET.STY (Sweet - Contemporary Country Bal) which is a MIDI style. It sounds perfect without any edits Thanks again for all your ideas. Also, I now have a few more topics to investigate further thanks to some of your suggestions. Rec

Rec, the ACW requires some hand holding, notably to mark beat one at the start of the song and use F8 on each beat one afterward if the tempo wanders.
The more complex the chords, the more it will require manual correction.
When you have some time to practice, give it another go.

Rec, Our very own Joanne Cooper (Josie C) does a beautiful cover of "Hello" but she's an advanced BIAB user and capable of the microsurgery mentioned. Hopefully, she will jump in with advice. She's busy producing an album or she'd be first in line with help. She uses BIAB exactly as you intend. Matt may be too modest to show his credentials and I'll respect that. Don Grabbed this clip of Josie complete with 2 minute tour of Durbin, SA. Housed in that attractive frame beats a heart as big as all outdoors and a voice with perfect pitch. https://www.katch.me/JoanneCooperSA/v/38a80be8-bff3-3440-89b1-6da395b7deaa

Hi Rec. As mentioned by Don (thanks Don). I did a cover of Adele's Hello recently using BIAB. Here is a link to the video. https://youtu.be/78q3hVNPkTUSend me a Pm if you would like me to send you the BIAB file. It is not exactly the same as the original version. I usually "do my own thing" with my covers and use Realtracks.

When you have some time to practice, give it another go. Thanks Matt. I think the chords I had already were better than those detected by ACW. I followed the video tutorial and told it where beat one was etc. I'm sure that ACW will come in handy for future work though just not for this piece.
