Just to clarify, what version and build of BIAB do you have now?

430 Is the latest available build.
Also, presumably you have an Internet connection established?
Do you get any message at all, like 'failed to connect to server', 'band in a box is up to date' etc?
What is the 'Automatically check for updates' value set to? And you do have a tick in the checkbox?

I had the same problem. My version of BiaB was 429 or 428, CRS, and I knew 430 was listed on the forums. The upgrade icon did not work and yes I was connected. But this is not an issue for me as I have BiaB on my not-on-line music computer so I always DL the update file and move it to the music computer.
I thought that I had done something wrong so I did not report it as most of my music software problems come from wetware, i.e. my brain!

It might also help PG Music if you could define "never". Did it ever work, and if so, when did it stop working?

Same problem here.
Starting from original release 0f 2016, I have to go and physically check if there are updates.
The check for updates has not worked to this point, will have to wait for next patch to see if the problem remains.

Well, I'm new to BIAB. Bought 2015 MegaPak in November and upgraded to 2016 Everything Pak last month. It has "never" worked is probably bad language because I don't have a long history. But ...
I started with 427 so there have been 3 updates since then
Yes, I DO have an internet connection
The box always says "Band In A Box is up to date"
It automatically checks every two days.
I can sit here looking at the support page knowing there is a new update, click Refresh on the update page, and it still says it's up to date.

Thanks for the clarification EFaaT. That more detailed information is beneficial to more accurately track down possible causes. I also understand it has now been reported to PG Music for further investigation.

I thought I read in an earlier post that the check for updates "ignores" beta releases and is checking against stable releases.
The last stable release of BiaB at this time (Jan. 09, 2016) is version 429 which was released on December 18, 2015. Version 428 was pulled while in beta so version 429 is the only stable update for 2016 BiaB so far.

That's good thinking Jim. 429 does not show as a beta version, and 430 does.

A long, long time ago, I can still remember that PGMusic's Andrew gave a statement that every new build published is considered a beta. He also gave a reasoning which I don't remember good enough to quote.

Right. It wasn't all that long ago, though, maybe three years or so? All releases were beta but after a short time they would flip to not being a beta. Now, it seems as if each new release is needed before the prior one is no longer a beta, but perhaps that's because releases are more frequent?

He also gave a reasoning which I don't remember good enough to quote. yes, I recalled something about that also, and went searching and found a couple of comments from PGM staff: This was one of them Here is another one It seems they are considered Beta because they are new, but the contradiction anomaly is this: * PG Music post a topic to say the latest version is available and they provide a link to manually download it * The automatic search for later versions doesn't find the same file that has been advertised as available.

OK, I certainly accept that explanation. Seems quite rational to avoid dishing out suspect code to musicians who are not also computer nerds, like so many of us tend to be.
But I really wouldn't mind if someone from PG would confirm this so I know.
If that's the case, I doubt it will ever have a chance to update because I'll likely be ahead of it from the support page downloads. However, it would be nice if there was a switch on the updater to let the user decide if they want it to include betas.
