That iPhone app? I had my son try it on some tunes I genuinely wanted to research, and it came up with suggestions so off the wall that I don't think I will try it again until it is substantially improved. The results made for a good laugh, though.

Hey Notes - good story! You picked a most interesting album to subconsciously emulate.

Thanks.

I had "Time Out" and "Time Further Out" when I was young. I liked the concept, and as a sax player really appreciate Desmond's work.

When I went on the road I lost a lot of stuff. You can only take so much when you are playing 2 weeks with options all over the country (a very fun time in my life).

When I got off the road I picked up a copy of Time Out in a used record store, as both LPs were out of print by then. When they got re-issued on CD, I got them both and that's when I discovered I unconsciously ripped of Dave's song.

Getting them both on CD was nice. Although I like Desmond's tone better on LP (it sounds truer to his sound live), I tend to listen more to CDs because of the convenience. Each format has it's own distortion, the LP has better tone but surface noise, the CD has severe quantization defects which change the sound of the instruments, but no surface noise.

Anyway, the Time Out albums, although severely criticized when they came out, have proven to have passed the test of time. I'm sure the music will live longer than the critics that dissed it.
