I wish PG would provide a PDF file explaining "system setups" <ie> DX settings on drive F (USB) and same files on drive C. Yet they don't match (dates). Shouldn't they??
I (also) like this info to go into the printed manual. AND I wish RealBand would get a printed copy.

Matt: ?? Any updates are downloaded to a specific folder on drive C: then plug in the USB drive and execute the update. So it's up to the update to do it's thing on USB drive.

If I understand your answer correctly, you have installed full BIAB to your C drive. You also have the PG Music drive in F.
When you download an update to drive C, you will have to run it twice, once updating files on C and again specifying files on F. The update is only told about one file location at a time; it won't find all BIAB files on your system.

Hi Matt: no no. USB (F) is my main BIAB. Due to the setup (Option 1), it copies "some" files over to drive C: That's just the way setup is. I didn't ask for it.
To summarize BIAB is on the USB drive (F). Why it copies certain files over to drive C: ???
In the Wish dept, I requested PG put out a PDF file explaining the logic of their setup and files placement.
Q: why is there DX Settings in both locations?? It did that during the initial setup. When you apply the updates (You point to the location of BIAB if it's not on drive C). It's the lack of knowledge/understanding that drives people like me crazy, and ask such silly question.
My main beef is that the updates seem to apply only to the main App. It should update wherever PG stores it files.

Not sure about your DX settings comment. DX settings are stored in the registry, and it's just a matter of updating it from with BIAB. BIAB reads the information from the registry and saves the information it knows about what's there. If BIAB isn't finding a DX or DXi that you know to be there, you should just be able to refresh the list by clicking the Options button on the DX/VST selection screen.
VST/VSTi settings are different. They are based on selecting specific DLL files; however, BIAB tracks that information in the folder where you launched BIAB from. If you launched from the BB folder on the USB drive, then that's where VST information will be stored.
I'm not sure what gets stored on the C: versus USB drive, since I run everything from my hard drive, but my understanding system-wise, is that whatever you do in BIAB gets stored/saved/modified/etc in the folder from where you launched BIAB (whether it be the internal hard drive or the external USB drive).

Okay, I understand the context now. You meant the DX Settings folder, not the actual DX settings on your computer.
So those files are preset files, which means they will change anytime you make any changes to your presets. If you are running the app from your external drive, that's where it will change.
So support would need answer why the files go to the C: drive in the first place, as they don't really seem to be needed on the C: drive if running from the external drive.

Matt & John: thanks for taking the time to respond and info. Sorry I made the topic so confusing - gee I understand myself why don't others see the same thing. (Humor).

Now that I get it, yes, there are a few minor differences in mine.
I have, but do not actively use, a BIAB audiophile USB drive attached. [I say, not actively, because I have already installed the program and a subset of RealTracks onto my desktop on a spare SSD drive for speed).
First, like you, I have a DX Settings folder in BIAB on both the desktop drive and the USB drive. They are only a few bytes different in size, though, and most of the dates line up. I have one file dated yesterday, DefaultDXiSynth.tgs on the desktop drive, even though I do not use a DXi synth! No such file on the PG Music USB drive.
Each has a folder for Amplitude. I don't use that, either, and they are identical.
I don't know if any of this helps you or not. I'm not terribly concerned for me, mostly because the whole set of files is only about 24 MB. If they were huge, I would be more likely to ask questions.
I wonder if some vendor who made the DX files thinks it is usually on the boot drive, so they just put it there anyway? If you temporarily renamed the folder on drive C, would it still work? I'm betting, yes.

I think "if some vendor who made the DX files thinks it is usually on the boot drive, so they just put it there anyway?" That is a logical statement. Why? Because of the way Sampletank gets installed into multiple locations : (see screenshot), interesting comment from PG.
