So what's the easiest solution if you want to put covers of songs on youtube or other social networking sites? How about playing live and streaming covers? Do I have to approach the publishers of each song? Related to your comments above. The reason I wanted to get more knowledge on this was not that I wanted the world to see my documentary by posting on YB or the open internet in general. My documentary project, although profound for me, would be an interest only one....not something I'd want, or expect to go (I hate the word these days) viral as they say. As with most hear I've watched a lot of various projects on YT....many being military related. Most are just normal individuals that have included various music as background for their amateur video projects....not professionals in the video production field. Not something they've created to generate personal revenue. Given my perception I can't imagine more than just a single digit percentage of those persons actually had gone through the complicated legal gymnastics and buy the rights for usage of the musical content. Not complaining about why the current laws/processes exist....just a factor that occurred to me. But...what do I know...I have been wrong in the past. Back to it....

Well, that was certainly an interesting video from YouTube on how they handle copyrights. I was totally unaware that they were handling it in this manner. It certainly changes the rules and the game a bit.
It can easily set a new paradigm. And one that is, in my humble opinion, long overdue rather than just saying "NO, you need to go see Harry Fox".... but I'm guessing HFA isn't all that thrilled but on the other hand... they still get a revenue stream from the audio copy that doesn't go up on YouTube.

Well.... I finally figured out the solution for me with the suggestions from others not in this thread. I'm using Google Drive which has 2 gig (I think) of free space to upload/share files/vids with only well selected others. Only those whom you actually approve are able to view the files/vids, etc. Perfect! I also heard that Dropbox offers the same but I'm using Google Drive which is my learning curve. I'd never heard of these options but what else is new. Just thought I post this for any others that were similar to myself and beginning to pursue this path. Thanks to all who contributed here. I was in the old man trap for years and years about computers, the internet, social media and all that until this forum wised me up 10 years ago.
I'm an Air Force vet (a day lady, ha). You have every bit of my respect, man. You were slogging in 'nam while I was decoding some interesting stuff at a desk.
It took a while for me to understand the power of the internet and social media. I used to think it was just something for the kids to ruin their lives with. Not true at all.
The internet is the biggest library in the history of the world. You just have to figure what's real and what's BS.

Howdy Bob.... Haha...."a day lady". I never heard that one....I do know of chair force though. Well....you gave the feds a blank check too. I think I heard a stat that <1% actually sign up. I thank you for the kind words and some respect back to you also. It was not the picnic I joke about but I did retain all my limbs and a modicum of sanity. Back to computers... Yes...the "biggest library" in the world. I'm a science addict so I love the research I can do to expand what's left of my neurons. What gets tough, as soon as I get comfortable with some paradigm/process some new options or protocols rears it's head and I feel like I'm starting over again. But...that Google Drive thingy solved my issue quite well because it's by request/approval and not for the world in general. Thanks for joining my boring thread...carry on.

Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass.
