Oh yeah...absolutely you have to get the sound into the box.... that does involve cables...

One midi cable, and at least one audio cable for a guitar or a mic....

But none of those are patch bay cables. Patch bays let you reconfigure your rackable gear in the studio.... ins and outs, sends and returns.... I like to let the software configure all that stuff and if I want to have the reverb ahead of the compressor I simply drag the reverb to the top of the FX bin. All patching occurs instantly and internally. No corroded connections, no noisy cables, no broken wires.

But... hey, if you like patch bays and rack gear.....and personally, I like the lights and meters on the hardware..... enjoy that way of doing things.
