Booby, a "patch map" or .ins file has nothing to do the DAW seeing the software. You can use your Kenton just without a "patch map" you will have to learn where your sounds are in it. The first bank should be easy as I believe it is the GM bank, but the higher banks you may need to use cue cards to remember what is where.

From what I have read initially Pro Tools were in the pro studios because when it came out it was far better for recording audio then anything on the market. Now any high level DAW like Sonar, Cubase, Logic etc is just as good for recording audio as Pro Tools IMHO. The biggest difference is in MIDI. Again from what I have read Pro Tools still hasn't caught up yet. YMMV
