I've not seen this before, either. The scores I've seen use the spelled out "a tempo". Before this thread, I think if I saw it on a score, I would think "why is there a temperature indicator there?".
I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but I think it's becoming clear it is not "universal".
If I saw that I would say what the hell is a T Diminished chord? I agree that is not universal, at least not over on this side of the pond and down under.
When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"
