OK:
1. Your chain of sound reprodcution contains
a) your computer
b) a cable from the computer to the Sarlett
c) the 2i4
d) a cable from the 2i4 to the speaker(s)
e) the speaker(s)?
Can you -- just for testing -- connect the speakers directly to the computer's internal sound card? Is the static still there?
Do you have a second computer, mabe a friends computer, to check if it is the Focusrite?
Did you change cables to check if there is a higher resistance somewhere in the signal flow? Chain = Brand New Desktop PC > USB Cable > 2i4 > Headphone out from the 2i4 1) Distortion sometimes overwhelming, 2) sometimes faint, 3) sometimes OK. Other setup PC > HDMI Cable > TV w/internal speakers. Works fine. I have a 5 year old laptop > USB cable > 2i4 > Headphones. works fine.
