I'm trying to create a song which has a shot/break in a bar for the first and last chorus, but not the middle. I've entered the chord in the relevant bar as "Gm7.." and when I play the song I get the break as expected on every chorus.

Then I've changed the song settings and unticked the box "Allow rests in middle chorus". Now when I play the song I get the break in the first and last chorus, but in the middle chorus only the drums play. How can I get the other instruments to play?

The song is only 3 choruses long and I am using the style _GJBALDR.STY, which uses real tracks. I'm using BIAB 2016, latest build.

I'm sure this used to work, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help

Just expand the song to show all three choruses and then remove the .. from the chord in the middle chorus.

I can't say why it is doing what it is doing, but there are so many easy work arounds in BIAB to get it done, that most of the time you don't need to know why is does what it does.

Thanks for the suggestion. Whilst that will work, it's not ideal. I often change the number of choruses while practising, so that would require a lot more editing.

Is what I'm trying to do supposed to work? Is this another bug that needs sorting out or am I doing something wrong?

Regards

I've been doing a bit more investigation. If I change the style to a MIDI only style it works. So I think my settings are correct.

So the question now is, should this work with real tracks? Assuming it should, then I think this is another bug.

Anyone else seeing the same behaviour?

I don't know. I've never seen this reported before.

Clearly the RealTracks you chose have holds and shots, because it works in the other choruses.

So, I suggest you email Support and reference this thread.

How do you expand the song to show all choruses?

That works but would be easier if this could be in Opt., Preferences, Arrange. Or it could be in Opt., Preferences, Overrides where there already is a related function, a checkbox to Vary the Style in Middle Choruses.

Welcome to the forum!

Pretty good ideas. You should repost those thoughts in the "Wishlist" forum section. There is a better chance the suggestions will be seen by PG Music and other forum members will have the opportunity to support the suggestions and discuss their merit.

I only posted the information because someone asked how to expand the choruses. The "right" way to not have the shots in the middle choruses is as I originally posted. There is an option in the song settings to turn off shots & holds in the middle chorus. The trouble is, it doesn't work for styles with real tracks.

I've asked PGM about this and so far I haven't had a definitive answer saying why this doesn't work. It certainly works for MIDI styles. I'm hoping it is a bug that will get fixed shortly.

Yes, it sounds like a typical bug: there are a lot of functions that work with midi but not with real tracks, because the way the program has evolved.

You should report it to support.

After I read your solution I searched all around and found it about 12;00 midnight last night. Thanks I found a lot of other neat things by looking for this option.

I'm going to post a BIAB question in another thread. I still cannot find anything when searching help?

I had already and I have just had a reply saying...

"Since we were able to replicate the issue and can see that RealTracks don't properly obey that checkbox (only the drums track obeys) we'll be able to report that as a bug to the development team. They'll take a look at this issue and should have it fixed in an upcoming build update or a future version."

Fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later.

All MIDI styles implement holds, shots, and rests, as do RealDrums (although drums don't "hold"). For RealTracks, you need to make sure the "Allow RealTracks Shots, Holds, and Pushes" checkbox is checked. If not, they will be simulated, but that may not be satisfying. And not all RTs have shots and holds implemented - look at the "Holds" column in the RealTrack Picker to see whether it is supported for a particular RealTrack.

I can confirm that this bug still exists on the 2020 version. And there is no exclusion check box after strings tracks on chords settings despite that when you create a custom solo it goes directly to after strings to the 6th track. That is also a missing feature . You should be able to choose which track you wanna assign the solo with the soloist button. Am I missing something here ???? frown
