If I create a custom style, can I send the .sty file to someone else and they just put it in the correct directory and they will be able to use the style?

dga,

If the style contains Realtracks, the person will need to have the same Realtracks as you. Other than that, it should work. Try it and find out!

Meaning if I have the everything pak 2016 and the other person has the everything Pak 2016 it should work.
Would I be able to share a .sty file from an audiofile user? I realize I would not get the uncompressed wave files just the style, and my BIAB would use the wave files in the everything pak.

Also it looks to me like the .sty files are all in the root of the X:\bb directory. (all outside of a folder) is that where I put the file?

The audiophile or 'regular' version here should be irrelevant. The main program of the audiophile version is exactly the same as the 'regular' version.

BIAB always looks for a .WAV file. If it finds it, it uses it. If it doesn't find it, it loads and decompresses a .WMA file.

Matt are the files all in the same location? Can you verify that location? If you do a custom install can you just search for one .sty and that is the directory for all .sty files

First two-part question, yes and yes. I have the audiophile version. For every RealTrack, there is a pair of files - one .WMA and one .WAV. These are in hundreds of sub folders, of course.

Second question: I think John Ford could answer this better, but I thought there could be a sub folder where user styles may be located, as well as in the main /BB folder. However, according to the FAQ#45, they must be in the main /BB folder. More info: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq37.htm#45

Yes this was the confusing part .sty files showed up in multiple locations when I searched my entire computer for *.sty. Artist performer sets are in unique sub-folders under bb\

There are some in different locations because different programs or procedures access these supposed duplicate files.

BB looks for .sty in the bb-folder.

No way that I know of. What we do is exchange our email addresses via the PM (private messages) here. Click on Trygve's name over on the left; you'll see it.

... or you could store it in a "public" area of your cloud storage and send the link via forum if you want everybody to have or via PM if you want a specific person to have it.

How do you send an attachment in a PM? I don't know how to do that.

Probably the quickest way is to upload to DropBox or similar, and then put the download link in the PM.

Oh - never mind. He meant, send the link via PM. I thought at first he was saying a PM could have an attachment of a style file.

Style files (*.sty) can only be located in one of two places in BIAB/RB to be available via the StylePicker. Either in the main BIAB folder (e.g. C:\BB) or in a sub-folder right under the main folder called "Styles" (e.g. C:\BB\Styles).

That's not to say that there may not be other style files located elsewhere, because BIAB/RB will also let the style file reside in the folder where you are loading the song (and therefore won't give you a "style not found" message).

Also, for folks that use them, remember that Yamaha style files are also called *.sty, but are not at all compatible with BIAB/RB. Additionally, there are other programs that may use the .sty extension, but again won't work in BIAB/RB.

I keep all my style files provided by PGMusic in the main BIAB folder (as well as style files purchased from Bob Norton, since they all start with the "#" character and are easily identified). I then keep all my user styles (those I've created, those I've downloaded from Yahoo's BIAB groups or from other places on the web) in the Styles subfolder, and then WinZip a backup copy of that folder so if I ever have to re-install it's pretty easy.
