Hello,

Trying to understand how setting the track volume works on pages 127 & 128 of the manual. I can play the song and setup the mix then stop the song and click the save button then play the song again and all the volume settings are gone and return to previous volumes, the weird thing is if the track is showing the correct volume say 55 the volume actually sounds like 90 until I click the scroller to 54 then it drops the volume to 54. Now that I'm looking a little closer the Pan, Reverb and Chorus have returned to their previous settings, blah! Also the Roland VSC driver does not show up in the Midi Output Driver setup dialog.

Windows XP Pro SP3
M-Audio Revolution 7.1 24bit ASIO
SoundMax WDM Midi(2)
System Soundcard set to the SoundMax
BIAB using M-Audio Revolution 7.1 soundcard and SoundMax WDM Midi(2)
Checked Boxes:
Use VST/Dxi Synth
Route Midi thru to Midi Driver

Thanks for any help, I'm really stumped

You need to File|Save Song with patches and harmony... (ALT F2). There are some checkboxes there on the right to allow settings to be saved with your song including pan, reverb, etc. Make sure the ones you want are checked.

The Roland VSC won't show in your output driver. It is enabled on the right side of that window by checking 'Use VST/DXi synth' and choosing the Roland synth on the next screen. If this is not checked, you are using whatever output driver is selected in the Midi Output Driver section.

Thank you Rachel,

I saved the song with the settings, when I re-open the file the settings are there until I press play and click on one of the instruments, then everything goes back to settings that were there when I applied the style, in this case Bossa Nova style. Is there something I can do to keep it from losing the settings, I tried clicking Replay after opening the file but the same things happened.

Settings that are applied need to stay applied and Ctrl - S needs to save every edit made to the song without the need for a special Save command. File|Save Song with patches and harmony maybe needs to be an export filter to package and make portable for other applications.

Still can't get it to work, sorry, but thank you for your help.

Thanks again
Warren

You might analyze your song via the Event List editor and the PianoRoll Window to check whether there may be some controller values somewhere overriding your manual adjustments.

The BIAB styles will override any settings you make unless you set those special checks. The easiest thing to do is to make those checks and, in addition, check the 'Save Mixer settings with each song...' - also found on the same screen (ALT F2). With these checked, every time you save the file with Ctrl S, those settings will apply.

Does the problem occur with every song or just one? You may try a Factory Reset.

Yet Another Update to this post.

It looks like my problems is mostly fixed maybe this will help someone.
Go to Opt. > Preferences > then click the "Rec. Filter" button, its on the right side of the many buttons. Next check every check box and click OK. Doing this seems to fix the problem with the Volume control not staying put and the desired volume setting set by the user, but with any previously made song its still the same problem even with the Opt. settings made. Also it seems that events made to the midi mixer settings are not applied until you click the up or down arrow then it writes the event. Events are not written using the popup window.

It may be nice to click in the event windows "Volume, Pan, etc" and then press the up and down arrow keys on the computer keyboard to make the values change, or to be able to click in the event window and type in the value without the added popup window, the popup seemed a little confusing at first because of the size of the text entry area because it looked like if you pressed enter it would start a new line like a text editor does.

Next for Panning: Click in the window and type "R" for pan right or "L" for pan left or "M" for Middle or alternatively "C" for center - Or right click and select a panning selection from the context menu.

Other nit picks I have found was if you click the Cancel button on the Rec. Filter dialog box because you do not want to make changes, the dialog still makes the changes

I think also that the Style can override settings if allowed to do so. You might try the Styles/Style Maker/Edit Current Style (Ctrl/Shift/F9) and check the box to allow volume changes with the style and see if that helps.
Good luck.
