If you purchased the audiophile external drive, it is USB 3.0.

If the USB cable has a blue plastic bar inside the wide end of it, it is USB 3.0. If it's a white bar, it's 2.0.

I'm reasonably sure the Y connector means you have 2.0, because if it's 3.0, there should be enough current in a 3.0 connection to run the drive without the Y. If it's 2.0, then you should use both Y connectors to supply enough current. Use your 2.0 ports.

You should also try plugging into the USB connectors on the back of your PC (use the ones connected directly to the motherboard) rather than those on top, or on a hub.
