I can't track down how to highight a range of notes in a melody to copy them to another spot in the melody. I've searched both the forum and Manual and can't find the answer. It's not intuitive...so any help will be much appreciated with this rather basic editing need...

Thanks!

You can certainly copy all of the bars of the melody to the location you want, but it copies all the instruments.

Then you use a number of dots after the chords to silence the other tracks. Watch this thread, somebody will quickly tell you all the symbols and what letter to put behind the Chords to only play the melody.

If its the solo instrument I think you use the letter S. I usually use Drums and/or Bass solos, so I use ...PB a lot.

D...S Gm7...S etc where D and Gm7 are the names of the chords. You have to retype in the chords in the Bars and enter the ...(Letter of the instrument that is solo).

A lot of the DEMO songs have these notations in them, that is where I found the...s first.

Thanks, but I don't want to copy the entire melody. I just want to copy one bar in notation view -- a range of the melody. The manual refers to highlighting a range, but doesn't say HOW to do it...I've tried various combinations of CTL- OPT- clicking, but nothing that is standard in other programs seems to work...unless this just isn't possible, which seems kinda crazy if that's so...

Mantraman,

Welcome to the forum! Are you using Band-in-a-Box for Windows or Mac? The Windows keyboard has a CNTRL (control) modifier key while Macs use the command (Apple) key as it's equivalent.

I ask because you posted in the Mac forum but said you used the control key.

I'm on the Mac. Command key doesn't help with highlighting a range, so far as I can see. I hold it down and click on notes and it just seems to either overwrite them, or do nothing...

I don't believe you can select multiple notes in Editable Notation Mode. You'll need to go into the Piano Roll window to select multiple notes. There, you can just "circle" the notes you want with your mouse, or just CTRL-Click (I guess for you, CMD-Click) individual notes to select multiple.

Hi. To copy and paste melodies in a range of bars, go to Menu Edit - Copy Special - Copy From.. To.. or press option+c keys. This will open the 'Copy Chords and/or Melody' dialog. If you want to copy just Melody notes, but not the Chords or Soloist notes, check 'Copy Melody' and uncheck 'Copy Chords' and 'Copy Soloist.' Then specify the location. For example, if you want to copy Melody notes of bars 4 and 5, and paste them to bar 15, set like this:
