I wanted to make my own user tracks but I cant seem to load the RealTracks Set 238: Danny Gottlieb Jazz Drums (just bought and installed) into my project.

I followed the instructions and it says:

1. Pick the style and tempo you want to record at, and give your UserTrack a name.

If I go to the RealTracks picker there are no "Danny Gottlieb Jazz Drums"

I have tried the RealDrums picker where I can see and listen to the grooves but I cant seem to find how to load it into my project.

There are no button for loading it? Just Play Now, Rebuild and Audition ?????

Is there a way to turn off all demo tracks ? I just want to be able to see what I can actually use and have bought ?

Thanks

I can see those 30 days Money Back guarantee go by fast trying to find out what works and what does not work for me with BIAB.

Right now this is one huge pile of frustration rather than a the creative bliss I was hoping for !

I wouldn't exactly call BIAB intuitive

There are a Gazillion menus and none seems to have the information I am after?

How do I go about to get my money back ?

Thanks

To answer your question about loading Drum Tracks that have Danny Gottlieb playing. I'd recommend loading a JazzSwing style (press the StylePicker to find one, or just load _JSWINGG.sty which is a nice Jazz Swing with guitar. Now you're going to have Terry Clarke drumming on that one, and you want to have Danny Gottlieb instead.

So here's how you switch drummers. Once the _JSWINGG.sty is loaded, enter the RealDrums picker (where you mentioned above that you can see the Danny Gottlieb drums. Find one that you like (that would match jazz swing), and highlight it and press OK, and that will load those Drums. So you will have _JSWINGG.sty but with Danny playing drums.

=======================================================================
You also mentioned that you want to start making UserTracks: I'd recommend to become familiar with the basics of using the program, before trying to make UserTracks - which is an advanced function that assumes that you know how to do things like load in a Drum Track. Also, its possible to make UserTracks outside of Band-in-a-Box, and many people do it that way (using their own DAW for example).

When I go to Realdrums Picker I can see all the 8 Danny styles but when I click any I only get a yellow popup telling me: No demo found for.................

I have spent the whole day trying to make some music.

I have been working with computers/software the last 18 years but this is just pure frustration.

Feels like you have to be an engineer to run this program.

Now tell me how to get my money back ! Please !

Patience magicaldog, patience smile . A program as complex as this requires patience to learn the more intricate functions.

Everything's easy when you know how.

magicaldog,

In addition to Trevor's great tutorial above, if you want to audition the Danny Gottlieb drums follow the 1, 2, 3, 4 on the image below.

1. Left-click to select the drum style.

Now... down the bottom of the window near the OK button...

2. Check the "Use Internet" is selected.

3. If you want to hear the drums as a solo, make sure "Band" is not selected. (If Band is selected, the drums will play as part of a BIAB ensemble backing.)

4. Click on the green arrow.

Lastly... making User Tracks is one of the more advanced procedures when it comes to working with BIAB. My advice is to first play around with the program for a week or so and get a feel for all the intricacies and the incredible vastness of BIAB's abilities.

Regards,
Noel.

P.S. Trev, I always admire your graphics. They look incredibly professional!

And miraculously it now worked !

But tell me please why sometimes I get the user-track and the drums on the same mixer channel ?

It seems a bit cumbersome to make a folder manually each time you make a user-track. Surely the program should be able to take care of the as well ?

Thanks

It's pretty simple !

The Drums fader on the mixer page does not only control drums but sometimes also bass etc etc ! In other words - More than one instrument !

I have no clue why it does that !

Making a user track is an advanced feature, and I think you're misunderstanding the term. you should never need to make user tracks. You make songs and save them. Have you made a single song and saved it yet? If not, type in some chords, and press the save button and you'll have saved your first song.

You should watch some of the beginner videos, and the first one is "making a song" and it is on this page, along with other videos http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

I was wondering that too....

What do you want Band In A Box to do for you? There might be an easier way to accomplish it than via User Tracks.

Sure I have made several songs by choosing a style and then typing in a chord sequence.

That is pretty simple.

But if I want a bit more rhythmically (personalized) advanced accompaniment ( and I do) the user tracks seemed like a good way to do that !

I also like odd meters like 5/4 7/4 9/8 etc etc and don't see too many of those in BIAB.

That is were I thought the user track could come in handy.

Too me the generic accompaniment found in some instruments like organs etc etc gets pretty boring pretty fast. You know when the accompanist only plays quarter note throughout !

I would like to make my own usertracks with specific voicings that works for specific musical genres that I don't find in BIAB.

Thanks for the link !

Wondering what ?

I want BIAB to accompany me with rhythmically varied grooves that doesn't bore me after two choruses !

Some of the Realtracks have amazing accompaniment patterns. Do you have the UltraPlusPak with all Realtracks (there are over 2,000 now)?

Also, I'm not a User Track expert so I might be wrong about this but as far as I'm aware, User Tracks are only 4/4 at the moment.

Any style can be played in any time signature - at least any N/4 time signature.

Just select an area of the chord sheet and choose the menu item to set the time signature to 5/4 or 7/4. If you choose 5/4 then it will do it as 2 bars, one of 3/4 followed by one with 2/4.

This is orders of magnitude easier than trying to make user tracks in odd time signatures. If you are interested in exotics time signatures like 11/8 13/8 etc. we have those too, they are a mixture of MIDI and RealDrums. Use the time signature menu in the stylepicker to see what's included in the pro version, as I can't recall if those exotic ones are part of the pro or not.

Btw, the 30 day money back guarantee can come in handy in two situations :
- if you don't like the program, return it for a full refund
- if you love the program, and wish that you had bought a more advanced version (like the ultrapak that has 2,500 hours of realtracks which is about 10 times what the pro version has) then you can upgrade to the ultra, and all of the moe y you paid for the pro would be credited to that purchase. I mention this because it sounds like you're interested in all kinds of things musical, especially Jazz, and if you asked people around here, they would say "get the ultra Pak". Just a suggestion....

Only have the $ 129 start or basic pack plus the RealTracks Set 238: Danny Gottlieb Jazz Drums.

$ 468 is a bit over the top right now plus there are stuff I would never use.

Yes I'm interested in all kinds of musical things like time signatures, dynamics, harmony, melody and first and foremost rhythm and certainly Jazz or should I say improvisational music !

So it is possible to make usertracks in odd meters ?

My brother helped me making a test usertracks to see if it worked with other changes and it worked, sort of !

I will continue to check out the possibilities of BIAB during these 30 days before I decide what to do.

Like you, I'm simply a BIAB/RB user and not PG Music staff. I mention this just so you are aware that I have nothing to gain from my below comments.

In 2006, I bought the MegaPak because I didn't want to spend too much money (just to be safe in case the software was going to be a white elephant). At the very first sale PG Music had following my purchase, I was so impressed with the software that I upgraded to the UltraPlusPak (the UPP is the first package that has everything). I've been getting everything ever since. As Peter mentioned, the UPP package is really popular on these forums and is used by jazz musicians, country musicians, pop musicians, etc.

In relation to the price (and assuming I'm doing the numbers correctly)...

Since you've already purchased the ProPak, I suspect that you are eligible for the crossgrade option with the UPP. This reduces the UPP to $299. (The 'full refund' pathway is also available to you but I think you do a little better by going for a crossgrade if that's an option the company permit.)

Also, since you've mentioned that you bought Danny Gottlieb, I'll assume that that's RealPak Set 12 for $79. You'd be able to get a full refund on this (as Peter mentioned above).

This brings the price down to $299 - $79 = $220.

I haven't checked this before but I notice that there are 12 jazz packages available (11 at $79 and 1 at $99). These total $968.

It's only my view, but it seems to me that if you want to do the best by yourself from a jazz perspective, $220 extra still represents a huge saving in the long term if you are looking for jazz accompaniments.

One of the things I've discovered about Realtracks is that it's best to be flexible and open-minded when it comes to creating a backing. Many times, I've used tracks from very diverse genres and have mixed them together very successfully.

In addition, the extra MIDI styles that come with the UPP will be very useful from a jazz perspective. With a good soft synth, MIDI tracks can sound really awesome. I often use MIDI/Realtrack combinations.

Lastly... You mentioned odd time signatures. Below is a link to a list of odd time signatures that I have in my version of BIAB so that you can check them against what your package contains. Use Stylepicker "Other | Other" as shown on the image.

...and here's my list...

List of Odd Time Sigs (pdf)

Even though some of these od time signatures are midi-only templates, once they are loaded into BIAB or Realband, they set the chord sheet template and Realtracks can be added and will be generated according to the time signature. (Some of these generations will sound better than others - it will depend on the Realtrack.)

...the above is just my 2 cents worth of thoughts.

Regards,
Noel

RealTracks Set 238 : Danny Gottlieb Jazz Drums is $29 and is part of the RealPAK Jazz: 12.

I've checked your chart and found that there is mostly non jazz stuff. ( Sounding like a Jazz snob :))

Don't like the idea of buying something I will never use.

I still haven't found out if you can use 3rd part MIDI files for drum plugins like Addictive Drums 2 ? That would be sweet because then I could use MIDI for drums and usertrack for other instrument when making my own backing tracks !

I guess I have a lot to read in the manual smile

If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
