Is there a way to generate a melody that only has a specific type of note value, say only quarter or only eighth notes? The idea is that I want to generate random notes, with a specific pitch range in a given key, but to have no rhythmic variation.

Not what you asked for, but you could play and record your rhythm on a keyboard (or even your computer keyboard with the right BIAB setting), then go into Notation Edit Mode and drag each note to a random pitch.

Thanks for the quick reply Matt. I’m trying to generate positional sight reading practice exercises for some of my guitar students that would only have note values without rhythms. I thought perhaps I could use BIAB to do quickly that.

Interesting exercise. I'm not saying BIAB cannot do that, just that I don't know if it can. Look at all the options in the Melodist.

I've been trying for a few days using the melodist options, but cannot find a way to do it. I thought maybe someone else might know of a way. It's no big deal, I'll do it the old fashioned way and just write out the exercises

Paul, I don't think the Melodist can be forced to write only quarter notes. When I used Google to help, I discovered the below VST. It might be useful. I haven't yet tried it. Melody GeneratorRegards, Noel P.S. When getting programs from the internet, make sure you research them and do all you can to verify them as they could be a virus in disguise. I have not tested the above program.
