Presuming you are talking about Band-in-a-Box (since this is the "Recording, Mixing, and Production" forum), then you need to know about one of BIAB's quirks.

You have to start with a 4/4 style in order to be able to switch between 4/4 and 3/4. Even if you song starts in 3/4, you need to specify a 4/4 style initially, then switch to 3/4 in bar 2 (you can mute bar 1). For some reason, it seems that the initial style defines the maximum number of beats to a bar, so if you start with 3/4, you'll never get to 4/4. It has been requested numerous times to fix this, but for now, you just have to work around it.
