Apologies if this has been covered before but my limited searching abilities failed to come up with it. Is there a way to reduce the velocity on a specific MIDI drum note, in this case the crash cymbal? What had worked out to be the right volume with one synthesizer ends up being way too loud on another. I'm asking about setting a note range & having it extend for the whole song since going through & manually reducing the velocity every time the crash cymbal plays would be a huge pain. It would be about 18-20 times per verse & there are 5 verses in the song. Thanks.

Perhaps you can do that in the drum synth itself. I don't use drum synths much these days but I seem to recall mine having the ability to set the default level on a per part of the kit basis.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Edit menu has a feature called Change Velocity. Edit-MIDI-Change Velocity. If you open that, put a check in the box that says Use Data Filter and click OK, you can change the velocity by a wide variety of filters including Note.
If you really need to filter down (a certain note only when it is louder than 'X') you check the box for Secondary Filter and get pretty precise.
Lot of times people miss these little check boxes that are so powerful. This and some other powerful ones exist in many Edit type windows. Pay attention to those check boxes, and try them if you are unsure, to see what they offer. You can always Undo.

What rharv said is the best way, certainly if you have multiple instances of the same note that you want to change.
Alternatively, if it's just a single note, you can open the AUDIO EDIT window, right click on the note and then edit all it's parameters. The only thing you gain this way is the ability to jump straight in with a number for the velocity.

In my suggested method, remember to make sure your From-Thru (selected) section includes all the notes. Forgot to mention that.

Thanks for the replies. I did go in this afternoon & do the use filter feature & it turned out well. It's probably not possible to alter the volumes on the drum synth part itself since I'm using a Roland VR-09 in this instance & you can't edit the General MIDI section. I had originally worked up the sequences on a Roland Fantom X7 & probably set the levels in that one to match my needs. When playing the same sequences though Real Band & using the Coyote plug in for the drums the crashes were too loud on it too. Thanks again!

if you go to the piano roll click the note on the keyboard and all those notes will highlight hold the shift key and adjust the velocity this will lower all velocities for that note

Thanks for the extra replies. Yes, the piano roll technique sounds like it would be pretty easy & learning to do piano roll editing has been on my to do list. I'll take this as a sign that the time to start learning is now

Have a look at splitting the Drum instruments to separate tracks by using Edit > Midi > Split Midi Drums. With each instrument on a separate track you can open the Classic Tracks Window and adjust the "Vel" (velocity) column by changing the numeric value for the specific drum instrument. Try "Ctrl" plus + or - to change to a louder or quieter sound as you listen to the drum sound.
