The easiest way to go back to an earlier version might just be to reinstall an older version over the current version, if you have saved the files of the earlier releases.

However, I somehow suspect that this will now be resolved fairly quickly.

Thanks PG.

Hopefully the the new patch will do the trick.

I am a software engineer / test engineer and it can be tough developing test cases that cover all aspects of an update.

I believe that you are probably dealing with decades of legacy code and patching here and there to get and keep all the features working properly.

Has PG ever considered a total rebuild? Maybe 64 bit version?

Thanks!

OK, please explain, in clear concise English (I'm too lazy and stupid to learn any other language) the logic that says:

64-bit SW precludes bugs, reduces the number of bugs, or has any correlation at all on number or severity of BUGS (somehow magic occurs?)

BTW: rapid prototyping and case tools (please insert development environment, tool-sets, and language du jour - here) DO NOT eliminate bugs, sometimes they actually mask them or introduce "unintended consequences" (COMPLETELY LEFT field) type bugs.

Hopefully PG will consider the 64 bit version.

I work for a company that produces medical software. We had to deal with similar software issues, i.e. writing patches to fix the patches.

Customers started to get very irritated with patches to fix the patches.

So they did the right thing and produced a nice modern 64 bit interface. A lot easier to test with today's software testing suites.

When you are dealing with spaghetti code its not unusual to "break" one function while trying to fix others. I believe this is what is happening with the PG software. I am not sure how the testers did not see the QUICK PLAY button missing from the Stylepicker. But I guess it happens especially if management is insisting on a unrealistic software drop date.

Hopefully they PG software folks will figure it out soon.

Just my 25 cents (adjusted for inflation).

Cheers!

Larry

Larry, all valid points.

To attempt a re-write on a product as complex as BiaB and RB will certainly introduce many issues that need resolution, and take an extremely long time to resolve.
That's why Joel Spolky's article is so relevant.

We all want improvements, but how they are delivered needs to be considered very carefully.
