I hope this 'wish' has not already been covered.

I have 6 bars displayed in the opt dialog of the notation screen. When playback is occuring, the moving red notes starts in the first bar on the left and then plays all the way across the screen to the far right, but when it reaches the last displayed bar, the 6th, the next 3 bars are inserted all the way across the screen on the left side, and it starts over.

But what would really be cool is if the way the notation scrolled ahead was changed up a bit so that when the notes reached the 4th bar (of 6, if you had six displayed), the 4th bar would shift to become the first bar, with the next five after that displayed.

I hope I made that clear!

Or even better would be a smooth tractor scroll like the bottom of the screen on ESPN.

That is the way other notation scrolling utilities that I have seen work. I think it is a bit distracting the way it does it now, with the eyes always having to travel all the way back over to the left side.

I noticed nobody replied to this post.

I honestly did not try to come off as snide or ungrateful.

I am the first to praise this program. This is such an amazing creation.

kerkenat, I'm sure that nobody was dismissive of your suggestion.

I did read it but didn't reply because I don't use the notation window for live playing, only perhaps for some minor reviewing, and I'm used to the way it works. There are lots of ways the notation window could be improved, but I don't think it has seen any development for a good while.

Don't be disheartened with not getting a reply. I'm sure your idea has merit for users. Everyone's suggestions here are considered worthwhile.
Cheers
Trevor

I sometimes use this feature but I was hesitant to comment because I am guessing this is a matter of personal preference. The tempo might make a substantial difference. There's also likely plenty of more recent science about the easiest way to read that I don't know. If the look-ahead scroll/shift setting you propose were adjustable, then I think it would be a nice improvement.

Reading further, yes, I do concur, a sliding scroll function that kept the current chord somewhere near the centre of the screen would be quite useful. While playing, the scroll speed would be married to the song tempo.
+1

I think the scroll method would be my personal preference.

In the "Play Ahead' drop down box, have a scroll option and a left aligned option (simplifying quick-glancing at the upcoming bars) a center oriented option like VT mentioned (minimizing neck and eye movement) in addition to the options already there.

This will be useful for purposes of teaching sight-reading to students and beginners.

"with the eyes always having to travel all the way back over to the left side"
Yes an option, so the note/tab starts on the left, plays a bit then the page scrolls and the red note/tab stays in the same place - also to be able to render to video, not just the chord sheet.
