Thanks so much for sharing this, I know that you reached deep inside yourself and this is so soulful and such a fine tribute. Beautiful arrangement, delivered so well vocally, it's very emotional and touching, and powerful.

Greg, this is a very good song. I don't know if you have this on an album/cd project or not but I envision this as a perfect last song on an album. I begs for reflection and serious thought about where someone is in their life. You did an excellent job putting it together and the more simplified ensemble of piano, strings and voice is just what it needs and nothing more. Thanks for your work!

Hi Greg,

There are songs that do not need extra bells and whistles, just a sincere lyrical story sung by a good singer who is emotionally connected to it, and you have this magic. This is such a song.

Thanks Bob. I really appreciate the kind words and your support. I had never lost someone in my immediate family. I was really hit by how different it was than losing a grandparent, aunt, friend, etc. Thanks for listening/commenting. Love you new one! Take care. Greg

A SUPER BIG PLUS ONE!

Everything that I wanted to say has been said and Alyn summed it up nicely.

This is a keeper.

Absolutely beautiful in all ways.

Exactly. Thanks for the touching background story.

Hello Greg,

I'm very sad for your dad's story. You have composed a beautiful song as a great tribute
to him and I like it a lot.

AABA form is such a perfect fit for your musical journey and its celebration of your dad. I'm in awe of the lyric writing skill on show in the bridge. Your philosophical take on Life's journey is one of the most eloquent I've ever heard. I love the adjective/noun metaphor "fragile kingdoms" and the way you've used it in the simile "castles in the sand".... beautiful imagery.

My condolences on the loss of your father. When we lose people we care about, it's never easy.

Please know that I am thinking of you.

Thanks so much Noel!! You always say the nicest things, and you clearly listen to people's songs very carefully. I love to hear your thoughtful analysis on my songs and others. Thanks so much for your consistent support and kindness! Take care. Greg

I love the gentle and articulate way you have of expressing whatever is on your mind... whether as lyrics in a song or as comments on someone else's.

As I listened, I imagined the voice of Ray Charles. It's as though you wrote it for him... I can easily imagine his version.

Given the topic, it seems almost inappropriate to launch into a discussion about song writing, so I'll just say that in my opinion, your song is the perfect expression of the man your dad raised you to be.

Thanks so much Pat!! I'm really glad you're so active on the forum again. I really missed you when you were gone. Like Noel, you dig deeply into songs and reflect. I always love hearing your thoughts, and I appreciate your wonderful support. Take care. Greg

Thanks Charlie. He was a wonderful man. I feel like not enough people could see that. Some people are harder to know but frequently the experience is richer if you really know them. I really appreciate the kind words and support. Take care. Greg

Thanks so much Floyd, and thanks so much for your help and encouragement with my music. It's been wonderful! It's funny you mentioned my dad singing. My dad never played an instrument or sang in front of anyone but family, but he was pretty good. I was young enough when he used to say "Sure, don't you know that one?" and break into a few bars. At that age, I thought everyone could sing in tune. He could have been pretty good if he worked at it. His middle name came from his uncle Leslie (mom's brother who went by "Les") who was a semi-professional sax player. Thanks for the wonderful compliment on the song. Take care. Greg
