Interesting. I checked out some tunes by Green River Ordinance and I can see why they could be hard to categorize. One is pure country, another is folksy and another is sort of rock. Americana is a good term for them.
Maybe somebody can answer this question for me, in the modern streaming world, what does an "album sale" mean?

Maybe somebody can answer this question for me, in the modern streaming world, what does an "album sale" mean? I take it to mean the collection of singles branded under a specific (album) title. While so much is streaming (which is what radio was as well, except you couldn't put in your own preferences, other than calling the station and making a request), a lot of music is still sold via Amazon and Apple, and are sold as albums. Yes, you can buy the individual tracks from the albums, but usually once you hit a certain number of tracks, it's cheaper to buy the whole album. I've also seen some albums listed where you can only buy a couple of the tracks, but if you want the rest, you have to buy the album. I'm pretty sure industry tracks those Amazon and Apple (and other online sites) "album" sales pretty closely. I myself hope it doesn't come to the point where we only have singles released. I have found many gems buried in albums that would have never made the mainstream, but which I thoroughly enjoyed (don't care whether it was someone else's cup of tea) and sometimes listened to more than the "hit(s)" from the album.

It's about time. Directv and XM have had Americana like stations for years. There are Americana award shows that get a lot of play and a ton of net and print media about Americana. Janice and I first started using the term in the 90's. Many country artists and listeners who are sick of or even disgusted by the current "bro country" have gravitated to Americana. It's a big fun tent. A little country, a little rock, a little folk, a little blues and you have Americana. Sorta like the Byrds, and Gram Parsons, and The Flying Burrito Bros, Emmy Lou, Linda Rondstadt and even Tom Petty back in the 70's. And FWIW Janice and I feel like our productions sit well within the genre.

Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more. If interested search on Janice Merritt. Thanks! Our Videos

Bud Merlefest, which I'd consider to be a prime indicator of live music trends within the arena of acoustic genres, has in recent years become practically dominated by music that the artists self-identify as Americana. So yeah, its about time they catch up with the rest of the music world.

Go Americana,
Now if we can get more genres to play well together. Musicians playing together that shouldn't be so hard.
We may see the JPOMAs Just Plain Old Music Awards.
