Maybe somebody can answer this question for me, in the modern streaming world, what does an "album sale" mean?

I take it to mean the collection of singles branded under a specific (album) title.

While so much is streaming (which is what radio was as well, except you couldn't put in your own preferences, other than calling the station and making a request), a lot of music is still sold via Amazon and Apple, and are sold as albums. Yes, you can buy the individual tracks from the albums, but usually once you hit a certain number of tracks, it's cheaper to buy the whole album.

I've also seen some albums listed where you can only buy a couple of the tracks, but if you want the rest, you have to buy the album.

I'm pretty sure industry tracks those Amazon and Apple (and other online sites) "album" sales pretty closely.

I myself hope it doesn't come to the point where we only have singles released. I have found many gems buried in albums that would have never made the mainstream, but which I thoroughly enjoyed (don't care whether it was someone else's cup of tea) and sometimes listened to more than the "hit(s)" from the album.
