It's about time. Directv and XM have had Americana like stations for years. There are Americana award shows that get a lot of play and a ton of net and print media about Americana. Janice and I first started using the term in the 90's. Many country artists and listeners who are sick of or even disgusted by the current "bro country" have gravitated to Americana. It's a big fun tent. A little country, a little rock, a little folk, a little blues and you have Americana. Sorta like the Byrds, and Gram Parsons, and The Flying Burrito Bros, Emmy Lou, Linda Rondstadt and even Tom Petty back in the 70's. And FWIW Janice and I feel like our productions sit well within the genre.

Merlefest, which I'd consider to be a prime indicator of live music trends within the arena of acoustic genres, has in recent years become practically dominated by music that the artists self-identify as Americana.

So yeah, its about time they catch up with the rest of the music world.
