Hallo allerseits,
ich wollte gerade ein angebotenes erstes Update für mein kürzlich gekauftes Band-in-a-Box 2016 Ultra Plus Pack installieren, aber es ist nicht möglich.
Wenn ich die Installations-Ordner so angebe, wie ich es installiert habe, kommt nur die Fehlermeldung, dass dort kein Band-in-a-Box installiert worden ist. Selbst wenn ich dann andere Ordner versuche, die vielleicht auch stimmen könnten, funktioniert es nicht.
Details zu meiner Installation:
Ich wollte das Programm nicht von der mitgelieferten Festplatte starten, weil ich nicht jedes Mal die Festplatte anstecken möchte, den USB-Port für andere Dinge brauche und die Festplatte lieber als Programm-Backup verwenden möchte. Da ich außerdem auf C: nur sehr wenig Platz habe, kam letztlich nur die Installations-Variante in Frage, wo ich in C: nur die Minimal-Installation vornehme, und den Großteil der Dateien in einer anderen Partition installiere, z.B. D:, wo ich genug Platz habe.
Angeblich kann ich auch beliebige Ordner dafür wählen. Ich wollte einen BiaB-Ordner in D: dafür verwenden. Aber genau das war nicht möglich, weil dann immer eine Fehlermeldung kam. Erst als ich D: selbst als Installationspfad angegeben habe, war eine Installation möglich.
Jetzt habe ich einen Ordner im Pfad C:\ mit 26,8 MB. In D: ist der ganze Installationsrest gelandet, 5 Dateien und 4 Ordner mit insgesamt 102 GB (was nicht so schön ist, da auf D auch noch einige andere Daten sind, aber das konnte ich eben nicht vermeiden.)
So ist das Programm auch lauffähig.
Allerdings scheitert das Update, wie beschrieben.
Beim Update gebe ich bei Select destination location im ersten Feld als Band-in-a-Box folder D: ein (denn dort sind die Programmdateien; danach hab ich es auch noch mit C:\bb probiert, was auch nichts genutzt hat).
In das zweite und dritte Feld trage ich jeweils D:\bb ein, weil sich genau dort die Ordner Drums und RealTracks befinden.
Aber genau dann kommt die Fehlermeldung:
"The folder you have selected as your Band-in-a-Box folder does not contain Band-in-a-Box 2016. Band-in-a-Box is usually located in C:\bb. This update must be installed to your existing Band-in-a-Box 216 folder."

herzlich willkommen im Forum.
Also ich rate Dir alles BIAB und RB auf dem Computer zu löschen (außer den eigenen Musikdateien).
Weil BIAB und RB nur die System-Plattform benutzen, sich aber nicht beim Betriebssystem registrieren, kannst Du diese Programme einfach löschen. Sie müssen nicht deinstalliert werden. Was Du aber machen solltest: Vorher BIAB und RB deaktivieren.
Wenn du das für Dich gemacht hast, dann geht alles eigentlich ganz einfach:
Du installierst am Besten BIAB auf irgend einem Laufwerk, das Dir passt, zum Beispiel D:. (Meine Installation ist auf E:, da habe ich "nur" Musik drauf.) Bei allen Updates findet BIAB auch dieses Laufwerk mit seinen Verzeichnissen.

Vielen Dank für Deine Antwort, Guido. Gut, das mache ich natürlich, obwohl das nicht wenig Zeit kosten wird und ich der Meinung war, bei der ersten Installation nur mögliche Installationsoptionen genutzt zu haben. Ein kleiner Minuspunkt, den ich mal an BiaB weitergebe. Einen kleinen Schlüssel für Band-in-a-Box in der Registry für das Starten der Band-in-a-Box.exe (so hieß sie bei der ersten Installation - bei der zweiten statt dessen bb.exe) hab ich übrigens doch gefunden und den auch noch gelöscht. Offensichtlich hatte ich im ersten Installationsanlauf nicht wirklich die Variante gewählt, die ich eigentlich wollte. Diesmal befindet sich die ganze Installation auch tatsächlich wie gewünscht in D:\BiaB\, und das Installationsergebnis ist auch ein wenig anders als beim ersten Mal. Viele Dateien bekommen jetzt z.B. ein BiaB-Icon, was vorher nicht der Fall war, und die Ordnerstruktur und die Dateien sind etwas anders. Etwas passiert allerdings wieder, was mich ein wenig ärgert. Ich bekomme wieder die Rückfrage: "An newer version of the Authorization Manager is already installed on your computer. Do you want to continue?" Das verwirrt mich etwas. Vermutlich spielt dieses Programm auch bei anderer Software eine Rolle (NI Kontakt? Ist ebenfalls installiert.) Und vermutlich macht es keinen Sinn, den älteren zu installieren. Aber was passiert genau, wenn ich fortsetzen würde? Wird dann der alte installiert? Ganz klar ist mir das nicht. Ich vermute mal, ja, und deshalb gehe ich auf Nein und hoffe, dass damit nicht auch irgendetwas anderes nicht installiert wird. Diesen Schritt hätte man klarer formulieren können. Sofort nach Start des Programms habe ich wieder die Möglichkeit, das Update herunterzuladen und zu installieren. Und diesmal klappt es. Wunderbar. Problem gelöst! Und sogar der Doppelklick auf BiaB-Songdateien startet nicht nur das Programm, sondern lädt jetzt auch den Song, was vorher nicht möglich war (auch wenn das Programm behauptet, diese Zuordnung wäre ich nicht möglich, und ich solle es später noch einmal versuchen...). Fazit: alles gut, Problem gelöst! Vielen Dank für die schnelle Hilfe, Guido! Ich hoffe mal, darauf in Zukunft nicht allzu oft zurückgreifen zu müssen.  Gruß Sunrise Edit: Oh oh, exakt genau jetzt, wo alles erledigt ist, sehe ich zum ersten Mal Deinen Satz, den Du extra dick gedruckt hattest, und ich hab ihn schlicht und einfach trotzdem übersehen, weiß der Geier warum. Nein, ich habe das Programm und Realband nicht deaktiviert und hatte eigentlich erwartet, dass ich jetzt beides wieder aktivieren muss, was aber bisher nicht geschehen ist. Also entweder stört die Neuinstallation die Aktivierung nicht, oder ich muss mit weiteren Schwierigkeiten rechnen. Hoffentlich nicht....! Ehrlich gesagt, ich hätte aber auch gar nicht gewusst, wo und wie ich die beiden Programme deaktivieren kann. Ganz so einfach ist das ganze nicht wirklich.

Das ist doch cool, etwas zu verstecken, indem man es hervorhebt, oder?
Der Authorization Manager gehört zu IK Multimedia und deren Produkt SampleTank. Es ist egal, wenn Du einen älteren installierst. Beim nächsten Aufruf will er wieder die neueste Version installieren. Ohne die neueste Version funktioniert das nicht. Das passiert fast immer, wenn Du irgend etwas bei IK Multimedia autorisieren willst/musst.
Du kannst BIAB/RB auf bis zu drei Computern gleichzeitig nutzen. Dafür musst Du das Programm bei PGMusic aktivieren. Wenn Du die Installation änderst, ist es ratsam, vorher die Programme zu deaktivieren und hinterher wieder neu zu aktivieren. Bei Fehlern und einer plausiblen Begründung ist (bisher) PGMusic aber recht großzügig. Diese Firma hat einen der besten Kundenservices überhaupt.
Aber es ist schön, dass es fast reibungslos funktioniert hat. Ich wünsche Dir viel Freude mit dieser Software.

Tatsächlich auf bis zu drei Rechner? Das wäre toll, weil ich oft noch einen Laptop als Alternative verwende.
Ich hatte mich schon geärgert, weil ich irgendwo gelesen hatte, dass ich nur die Lizenz für einen Rechner habe. Ich meine sogar, es stand in irgendeiner Anleitung von BiaB.
Da ich jetzt aber keine weitere Aktivierung vornehmen musste (die erste habe ich bei der ersten Installation machen müssen) habe ich von den drei möglichen also bisher nur eine verbraucht, wenn es richtig verstanden habe, oder?
Oder kann die nächste Aufforderung noch kommen?
Sampletank hab ich glaub ich auch installiert. Vermutlich ist es aber nur eine abgespeckte Kostenlos-Version, aber das weiß ich nicht mehr. Ist schon länger her. Würde die für den Zweck reichen? Sampletank taucht bei BiaB ja auch auf, wobei ich die Zusammenhänge noch nicht so ganz verstanden habe. Ist ja noch alles neu für mich, und die Fülle an Dingen, die man anfangs bei BiaB lernen oder verstehen muss, ist wirklich erheblich.

1. Aktivierung
Ja, tatsächlich. Auf bis zu drei Rechnern kannst Du BIAB installieren und benutzen. (Überleg' mal: Wenn Du zuhause arbeitest und ein Musikstück für Dich aufbereitet hast, um es auf der Bühne zu spielen, dann musst Du doch in der Lage sein, das mitnehmen zu können. Auf der Bühne wirst Du wahrscheinlich nicht den Desktop-PC aufbauen, sondern mit einem Laptop arbeiten. Das sind dann schon zwei...)
Wenn Du BIAB ohne Aktivierung verwendest, bekommst Du irgendwann eine Aufforderung, diese Aktivierung durchzuführen. Weil Du dafür die Seriennummer brauchst, sollte Dir dieser Prozess irgendwie in Erinnerung bleiben. Ich habe aber noch nicht herausgefunden, wie ich feststellen kann, wie viele Aktivierungen ich schon gemacht habe. (O.k: In meinem Fall weiß ich, dass es zwei sind, aber ich kann es nirgendwo nachlesen.)
Ob Dein Produkt aktiviert ist, kannst du an zwei Stellen erfahren:
a) in BIAB, unter <Hilfe> der letzte Menü-Punkt im Drop-Down-Menü
b) im Ordner BB Deiner Installation gibt es Dateien "bb2016_full.ticket" und "bb2016_trial.ticket" (eventuell auch mit 2014, das waren die ersten, oder 2015, wenn Du eine der beiden Versionen installiert hast) und auch einen Ordner namens TicketsActivated.
Es kann sein, aber das weiß ich nicht, dass eine Installation direkt von der externen BIAB-Festplatte bereits aktiviert ist.
2. SampleTank
PGMusic liefert, ich glaube seit 2014, BIAB und RB zusammen mit SampleTank Free aus. Einige Stlye-Dateien enthalten auch Instrumente, die mit SampleTank-Effekten versehen sind. Wenn Du bereits SampleTank hast, dann geht es nur noch um die Autorisierung. Bei IK Multimedia hast Du zehn Autorisierungen frei.
3. Lernaufwand
Na ja, das sind halt komplexe Systeme mit vielen Möglichkeiten. Da dauert es schon einige Zeit, bis Du da durch bist und Dich einigermaßen zuhause fühlst.

Danke Guido für die ausführliche Antwort.
Jetzt weiß ich, wo ich den Hinweis mit der einzelnen Lizenz gefunden habe. Im BiaB-Programmhandbuch (Version 2015 für Windows)!
Auf der Seite 2 steht dort unter PG Music Inc. Lizenzvereinbarung bei Punkt A:
"Das Programm darf nur auf einer einzelnen Maschine nur verwendet werden."
Und bei C steht weiterhin:
"Eventuell erhalten Sie das Programm auf mehr als einem Medium. Unabhängig von der Anzahl der erhaltenen Medien dürfen Sie die Software nur auf einer einzelnen Machine installieren und verwenden."
Unmissverständliche Aussagen. Von drei Rechnern steht dort nichts.
Zu 1).
Der letzte Menüeintrag unter Hilfe hieß bei mir nach der ersten Installation und Aktivierung "Aktiviere Band-in-a-Box (Seriennummer benötigt)", was mich etwas gewundert hatte, da ich kurz vorher ja erst aktiviert hatte. Und so heißt er auch jetzt. Ich klicke da erst mal nicht drauf. Wer weiß, vielleicht fangen die Probleme mit der Lizenz dann erst an.
Den Ordner TicketsActivated habe ich gefunden. Drin steckt eine Datei mit dem Namen bb2016.bin.
Die beiden Dateien mit der Endung .Ticket habe ich ebenfalls gefunden.
Bedeutet das alles jetzt, das mein BiaB aktiviert ist oder nicht? Nach der zweiten Installation kam jedenfalls noch keine Aufforderung dazu, was bei der ersten Installation nicht lange auf sich warten gelassen hat.

Edit: ich sehe allerdings gerade beim Menüeintrag Über Band-in-a-Box unter Hilfe die Angabe Aktiviert in Verbindung mit der Seriennummer. Also sollte alles in Ordnung sein.

Wenn Du bei den verschiedenen Installationen den Computer nicht wechselst, dann ist auch die Aktivierung dieselbe. Die Aktivierung ist an die CPU gebunden. viel Vergnügen mit BIAB und RB. Guido

Danke. Dann bin ich beruhigt und werde demnächst BiaB auch auf meinen Laptop packen, falls ich dort entsprechend viel Platz freischaufeln kann.
Die Lizenzvereinbarung von BiaB sollte allerdings entsprechend angepasst werden.
Das ist doch ein wichtiger Punkt, wenn man ein Programm kauft.
Das mit der CPU erklärt dann auch, warum ich bei zwei Installationen hintereinander nur einmal aktivieren musste.
Ein CPU-Wechsel wäre dann allerdings auch ein Grund für eine Neuaktivierung.

Ich bin gerade dabei mein Mainboard zu wechseln. Wie sieht es bei einer Neuinstallation aus? Muss ich doch sicher wieder aktivieren. Gab es nicht einmal einen Beitrag bei dem es darum ging die Lizenz von einem Rechner zu deaktivieren um sie auf einer anderen Maschine nutzen zu können?
Du kannst ein Pferd zum Wasser führen es aber nicht zwingen zu trinken. Wenn Du weisst, dass es Salz nicht ablehnen wird, wird Dir bewusst, dass es sich danach für Wasser gewinnen lässt.

Ja, zuerst deaktivieren und auf einem neuen Rechner neu aktivieren. Das spart Dir einiges an schriftlicher Kommunikation.

Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
