Here is my week 22 recording: Out Along the Western Sky

https://52tracksblog.com/2016/06/02/track-22-out-along-the-western-sky/

EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT THAT INTERESTED IN THE MUSIC, please check out the photo by a friend of mine. Stunning.

If last week's song was grungy Neil Young, this week's is the folkier Neil.

I kept this arrangement simple. At one point I had piano, organ, fiddle, and pedal steel RTs on the track but stripped it down to RT bass and drums. I played banjo-guitar and a baritone wood-bodied resonator guitar.

Thanks for listening.

Fred

Out Along the Western Sky

Out along the Western Sky
Crows and wolves pass on by
Whispered words like cottonwood
Blow away misunderstood
Trees have roots that hold them true
Straight-line wind can drop them too
Wishing I had said goodbye
Out along the Western Sky

Out along the Western Sky
Two half-truths make a lie
I have walked the King’s Highway
With righteous pilgrims led astray
Dust and thunder play duets
I’m so close I’m not there yet
Wishing I had said goodbye
Out along the Western Sky

Out Along the Western Sky
The softest thoughts amplify
Fallen idols cast about
Planting fields with seeds of doubt
Cut myself on common sense
Against the grain of coincidence
Wishing I had said goodbye
Out along the Western Sky

Out Along the Western Sky
Shadowed hands mark my eyes
Bloodied moon black-eyed sun
Countdown days have just begun
Fellow travelers in my heart
Look for things to take apart
Wishing I had said goodbye
Out along the Western Sky
Wishing I had said goodbye
Out along the Western Sky

Excellent writing!!! I've listened to several of your songs. All are well written songs. It takes years of writing to write songs of this calibre. Dave Chambliss

A pleasant listen, Fred.

Production is just what this ought to be. I often tell people that if you only use BIAB for bass and drums and add your guitar, the program is worth getting. You prove that in spades.

As ones of your commenters said, a harmony would be nice on this.

It is a gorgeous picture.

Thanks for the comments. Floyd, a musical collaborator of mine heard the track last night and emailed to say he heard a harmony vocal part. Great minds think alike. I am going to send him the track.

what Greg said! (I'm thinking of licensing Greg to serve as my spokesman on everything, since he tends to say just what I was getting ready to say) ;-)

The photo is indeed awe inspiring, and it goes well with the song as a visual reference.

Nice project all around, Fred! You must be very pleased with this one!
