Tutorial 18 says the following:
The File | Open command opens all types of files, not just MGU (i.e. MGU/MID/KAR/WAV/WMA/MP3/CDG/CDA).
But when I go to the File Open menu it doesn't have cda files as one of the types it will open.
Has that feature been moved?
If ever a man had it all, it would have to be me, and ooh I love you

Are you trying to open a file from an audio CD?
CDA files are small stub files that reference the audio content on audio CD's.
When you load an audio CD, you can't just open the CDA files that show up in Windows Explorer and expect to get the audio content. That's why you have to rip the files from the audio CD. If I'm reading your post correctly, it would imply that you are trying to open such a file from an audio CD. Is that in fact what you are doing?

Uhh... Yeah, I guess I thought the CDA's were the audio.
So can BIAB rip cd's?

No, but Real Band can. It takes a while but it will import an audio track and convert it to .seq and from there you can save it as a wav, wma or mp3 if you have the codec installed.

It's probably easier to rip the entire CD in Media Player or iTunes, don't you think?

Has that feature been moved? The statement in tutorial 18 is incorrect. Perhaps you can email PG Music support and alert them to the error.

I think at one point the statement was correct, but not anymore.
Ripping in WMP or iTunes likely ends up with a WMA or MP3.
I prefer using something like Nero to get an audio WAV file instead (CD quality data). I'm pretty sure even free Nero can do this still. I'd want WAV, not compressed if possible. RB can give WAV when successful, but there are more efficient tools out there for the job. RB also used to burn CD's .. with a little app called mini-burn .. but this too has gone away.

If you're doing a full album for your IPod or something I agree.
In this forum the assumption is at least for me, that a question concerns working with Biab or RB. If someone asks about ripping audio I think in terms of using that in a song I'm working on. There's tons of well known tools out there for simply ripping an album off a CD.
When I rip audio in Real Band it's because I'm messing around with just one track or even part of a track like sampling an intro for a Real Track generated song. It takes a bit of work but you tempo match the clip to your song and off you go.

I haven't tried it in Windows Version 2016 but cda is listed in the File: Open Special Menu.
In the past, I have opened files through the Audio Chord Wizard and the Audio Chord Wizard tutorial video demonstrates the procedure with opening a project from a CD.

Working with a commercial CD in the player, just tried both the File - Open Special and the File - Import - Import Audio (Wav, Wma, Mp3, Wmv)... and both come up with the error message "Sorry, cannot conver the file"

Same here. PGMusic programs used to be able to both read/write CD audio, but this has fell by the wayside as far as I know. May have something to do with JCjr leaving a few years ago. Seems like certain features have been abandoned/ignored since then. FWIW I used to get 'trial' plugins and such to test when he was around, but that stopped years ago when he left. I also notice things like VSTi timing and other features I *think* he would have handled have been lacking.. not to mention PGMusic DX plugins (they've been the same for many years) .. I miss him, almost as much as Mac. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showprofile&User=62
