Thanks Pat, as mentioned to Floyd, I just sang this raw with no filters and have no idea what I would do on a retake, but I will definitely give it some thought.

Re: the inspiration. I have to say I get A LOT of inspiration from this forum because people are writing real stuff, and there are a lot of people writing from their guts. Bob is one example, but there are plenty more on this forum. When I hear raw authenticity, it always ignites another song in me so this forum is great for that.

I also am appreciative of the feedback, I trust it more than commercial feedback because people just seem open and genuine and tell you what they think, and there is no hidden agenda or freaky competitiveness going on. That makes me trust it more.

One final note about lyrics:

When I was younger I got to spend the better part of an evening sitting on top of a burned out Pinto in an abandoned parking lot with a young Micahel Stipe, right after R.E.M. had formed. He told me something to the effect that "if the lyrics make too much sense it's not rock and roll."

According to Michael, and I am paraphrasing, COUNTRY is literal (I walked down to the store today at noon in Memphis) but rock and roll is supposed to be more obscure, and is supposed to resonate in the subconscious. In great rock and roll, he postulated, every listener takes the lyric and hears it in an entirely different way and makes it their own secret story. Or that was the gist of it.

I think I tend to agree with him.

And I am looking forward to a lot more inspiration from this great forum. Thanks!
