This was one of the first songs I ever wrote, back in 1971. It always was supposed to have an island feel, I think I've finally captured it. All instruments are BB, there are a couple of Latin drum sections added that don't show up on the memo. In terms of the vocal harmonies, I was imagining how the Beatles might have done it.

Pretty Girl
ADA(3)BmAEA
ADA Pretty girl, pretty girl
DC#mF#mE nothing's quite as beautiful in the world
A C#mBmA mothers and fathers want all their daughters
EA to be pretty girls

ADA Pretty girl, she pays the price
ADA everybody, they recognize
F#mEBmC#m she's so special, her life must be
EA some kind of paradise

ADA Seven cousins and an uncle or two
ADA all want to get their hands on you
F#mEBmC#m Policemen and musicians and the family physician
EA want a little bit too
chorus
ADA You see the preacher looking when you bow at the rail
ADA the congregation rises, and the ushers as well
F#mEBmC#m the organist is playing middle C handily
EA until his suction fails

ADA Everybody watches as you go on your way
ADA all the eyes upon you feel you're on display
F#mEBmC#m sometimes you like it and sometimes you wish
EA that they would go away
chorus
ADA(3)BmAEA solo
ADA Pretty girl's expected to be perfect inside
ADA have no dreams or thoughts that she would try to hide
F#mEBmC#m It's difficult to say what you feel
EA because the truth and beauty might collide

ADA Old Mrs. Patterson is dressed in blue
ADA always has the time to stop and talk to you
F#mEBmC#m listen to her closely when she tells you
EA that she used to be a pretty girl too
chorus
A C#mBmA mothers and fathers want all their daughters
EA to be pretty girls
A C#mBmA Mothers and fathers
A C#mBmA Mothers and fathers
A C#mBmA mothers and fathers want all their daughters
EA to be pretty girls

Thank you Charlie. I always thought this song should have an island rhythm, but didn't know how to make it work. The Latin and Reggae options in BB made it possible to record it the way I heard it.
I had fun with the effects in the second verse, which included spilling a box of percussion instruments next to the microphone.

THe tempo and upbeat nature remind me of Aggado.
A song about predators contemplating incest or molestation wrapped in a bouncy rhythm. Wow, you were cynical in 71.
I like that aspect.
There are a couple of points where you seem to slip by the nots but the overall package is nice.

Cheers

The idea came from a girl I was seeing. She set me straight when I made a comment about how her life must be paradise.

Hello Will

I like your production. It seems to me as a Buddy Holly's song is sing in a kind
of Calipso style.

Well sung.

Hi Will,

It's easy to tell that you've put heaps of effort into the writing, the arrangement, the performance and the production. Congratulations on finally finishing the song from 45 years ago! BIAB makes many things possible.

All the best,
Noel
