I agree. I grew up playing accordion and it doesn't have any decay it's on or off like a harpsichord or organ. Lots of other instruments don't decay either like all the horns for example. A horn player can control volume by his breathing but a sax, trumpet whatever has no natural decay like a stringed instrument does.

Tony, now that I mentioned volume is that what you're referring to? When you say decay we take it to mean holding a chord on a piano or guitar and letting it ring out. When you do that the sound naturally sustains and also fades out. That's decay. Volume is a different thing. With midi volume is controlled by controllers like CC7 for volume or CC11 for expression.
