You can get around that by using a drum fill to transition out of the intro and into the full band.

So, for example if you want a four bar intro with just acoustic guitar then the full band comes in at bar five you could enter it as |D.g |D.g |F.g G.g|D.g D.dg|

And have a part marker to start bar five. Drums will start playing a fill on beat three of bar four, quite effective, I've done this many times.
