Can any Reaper users tell me what OS version of Reaper are you using with Band In A Box/Real Band.. Presently have Windows 10 Home 64 bit Intel core i7-3720QM 2.6 GHz 8 Gigs ram with Band in a box 2016 Everything Pak installed. Just wondering if I should download the 64 bit Reaper or the 32 bit version to use with BIAB/RB. I have a small amount of VST instrument plugins with both 32 and 64 bit plugins in their separate folders. I do not have J bridge so I'm using only 32 bit plugins in BIAB. Would like to try Reaper... Just not sure which one to download.
Any advice appreciated

I'd get 64, but that's your call.
Reaper does not depend on BiaB in any way.

Use the 32 bit plugin versions in BiaB/RB .. and either 32 or 64 in Reaper.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Your system is much like mine. I moved over to Reaper 64 2 years ago. Works like a charm. Do your self a favor and download Reaper 64, you will thank me later.

I use Reaper 64 bit. I changed to it earlier this year. All my main plug-ins - Melodyne, Ozone, Nectar - are 32 bit and they work fine. Reaper has its own in-built 32-to-64 bit adapter. Files created in the 32-bit environment also open and run flawlessly.

Noel96 when installing Reaper did you also install the additional content (Rewire, Rearoute and Reamote)? Not sure if the additional content will be supported with BIAB and possibly not needed?

Hi bluzkeez,

I installed the default install.

While I haven't used any of the above additional content yet, my reasoning was that I don't know what's around the corner and one day I might need it. I also have plenty of room to spare on my hard drive so it wasn't an issue. As far as I know, the additional content is not supported by BIAB yet although Rewire has been discussed in the Wishlist forum a few times over the years.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Well folks my first attempt at installing Reaper failed. What I did in error was to attempt to change the scan path (vst) so that reaper would only scan the two folders of plugins that I created. I set up the following: C:\ program files vstplugins and C:\ program files(86) vst plugins. for 64 bit and 32 bit versions. I really don't have that many plugins compared to most, and almost all my plugins offer 32/64 bit as well as operate in stand alone. When I installed these I tried to be careful to put the 64 bit and 32 bit versions in the proper folders. Still some default installations created Steinburg folders as well as Avid and Cakewalk, although I don't have any software by Avid or cakewalk installed on this particular computer. Upon installing Reaper, the program tried to put every instance of the dll's in all folders in the scan path. So obviously I had multiple instances of the same dll's across different folders. When I went to change the scan path the program crashed and upon restart Reaper wanted to scan EVERY dLL on the C drive which of coarse resulted in my dilemma..I eventually had to roll back windows to an earlier restore point just so it would boot up without hundreds of errors. My question is how do I specifically set-up reaper to only scan the two folders listed above. This problem was obviously caused by my inexperience and self deemed a typical noob error. Right now Reaper is uninstalled and I did find and removed the Reaper ini. file so I should be able to try to reinstall fresh.. Is it wise to delete some of the folders eg. Avid, Cakewalk that contain dlls before I reinstall Reaper? Any help would certainly be appreciated.

If you have copied all your VST(I) dll's to your own VST folders, then you only need to tell Reaper where they are. Reaper doesn't move anything around, it only scans for VST dll's and makes note of their location so they are available to you. If you had it set for the C:\ drive, then it's going to scan the entire C: drive, because it looks at the folders you specify and then scans every subfolder underneath the one you specified (as do most DAW's).

Just go to the Reaper Preferences screen and in the left hand navigation pane, select "Plug-ins/VST". There you can select the folders where your VST's are located. and that's where Reaper will scan. Sometimes a VST will cause it to crash, but you can usually recover and continue scanning. The list of folders to scan is just a semi-colon separated list.

On my computer, I have moved all my VST's into separate folders for better management:

"D:\AppsData\VST\32-bit"
"D:\AppsData\VST\32-bit Only"
"D:\AppsData\VST\64-bit"
"D:\AppsData\VST\64-bit Only"

And I have also run the jbridger utility to create jbridged VST's for the opposite type of DAW. So I have:

"D:\AppsData\VST\JBridge\32-bit For 64-bit DAW"
"D:\AppsData\VST\JBridge\64-bit For 32-bit DAW"

The "32-bit for 64-bit DAW" includes jbridged VSTs from only the "32-bit only" folder, and the 64-bit for 32-bit DAW" includes jbridged VSTs from only the "64-bit only" folder (since I already have separate VST's for all the others.

Because they let you, I have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of each DAW installed on my computer.

In the 32-bit DAWs (Reaper, Sonar, MixCraft, etc), I set the VST folders as follows:
"D:\AppsData\VST\32-bit"
"D:\AppsData\VST\32-bit Only"
"D:\AppsData\VST\JBridge\64-bit For 32-bit DAW"

in the 64-bit DAWs (Reaper, Sonar, MixCraft, etc), I set the VST folders as follows:
"D:\AppsData\VST\64-bit"
"D:\AppsData\VST\64-bit Only"
"D:\AppsData\VST\JBridge\32-bit For 64-bit DAW"

I usually only have a problem with a weird VST that doesn't want to scan correctly, but otherwise, it works just fine in all the DAWs.

Thanks jford, I had Reaper in and out several times that day. I never deleted the Reaper ini. file originally so every time I reloaded it I had the same results. Now I believe all is gone. So I assume I can not only add folders to search but can remove as well? Is this simply done on the same page you referenced in your reply and if so great. Might it also be necessary to edit the vstplugin ini. scan under Reaper preferences as well. I believe this is under user accounts roaming etc. Trying to not make a big deal about this but my last attempt really screwed things up and want the next attempt to go smoothe. OR maybe just learn Real Band a bit more!!!!!! You are right, in my haste I started deleting items in the path and must have left C: in there somewhere so my whole drive was scanned.. Feel like a dope!
