I'm not familiar with all the different PG Music files so this may be obvious but ... what is the Xtra styles mentioned in the Aug. 03, 2016 release notes for 2016 BiaB (Mac & Win) and RealBand?

I understand that they are an extra set of Styles made up by creating new arrangements using different instruments from some of the existing styles. From what I can gather, there are some very creative and great new style sounds.

They are new named combinations of RealTracks selected by PG Music and marketed separately for a modest price. There are some very interesting and effective selections.

A very interesting addition but I am also a bit confused by the update instruction, which says:

"The patch installs some RealTracks updates; make sure to select the correct RealTracks and Drums folders so those files can be updated."

Sinced "folders" is plural, does that mean the actual RealTrack style listing has to be selected? Or is it sufficient to make sure the total update goes to the right place, in my case an external PG Music supplied driver; setup locations being "Band-in-a-Box E:\bb", "RealDrums ('Drums') folder location E:\bb" and "RealTracks folder location E:\bb?

It means just your two locations for /RealTracks and /Drums. Nothing new in the installation process.

In my case I just allowed the installer to choose the default locations (x:\bb). It already knows which drive you are using (in your case E:). In other words, no manual intervention was required. HTH.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought and the way I have always done it but that wording did confuse me a bit.

Are there any more jazz styles amongst the additions?

Yes, some really great Jazz Styles, including Dixieland, Jazz Swing Rock, Jazz Ballads, Hot Swing Jazz, BeeBop Jazz and more. I think there are about 35 new Jazz Styles.

I found these on YouTube:

Tip: The Jazz Styles start here...

I'm a little perplexed.
Is the suggestion that we pay for something we can already do at anytime?
You can already add to an existing style trying a variety of realtracks & midi tracks to get the sound/feel You want.
Am I missing something here are there additional realtracks involved?

As I understand it, we could do it ourselves, but it does take a good while sometimes to find styles that work by combining different realtracks.

What I believe PG music have done, has taken a lot of the drudgery out of it, and we are given a whole new set of new styles where the realtracks and midi work well together in each style, saving us time to get on with the music making.
Price seems very fair too.

You can do this yourself, yes. But I would encourage you to preview the combinations PG Music has created by watching the video. I found some excellent combinations I would never have thought to try, much less put in the time to discover. The price is quite modest for what I consider a helpful service.

So is the 49Pak the one released with 2016 or are there additional realtracks for the extra money?

I believe that the 49 Pack is the one released with the 2016 version. I understand that there are no additional RealTracks in the XtraStyles, but there are more than 160 new RealStyles made up from the existing RealTracks. In my view, definitely great value for the price being asked.

Note though that the 49 pack is currently available at a big discount if purchased with the XtraStyles

I had the exact same feeling and asked the exact same question! smile

Short answer is there are no new RealTracks. These are new styles PG has created using RealTracks that already exist and yes, you could create these styles yourself. But, as I understand it these will not work unless you bought the last upgrade with full set of new RealTracks.

So it is up to each user to determine whether the new styles are worth it to you. There is certainly value in the time PG spent selecting compatible RealTracks, combining them, setting things like tempo and panning and tone, etc.

Talk about low key. I didn't even know about these.

I don't usually check the PG Home "advert" page but it's moot anyway, they aren't listed there (yet) but here they are

Correct on both counts - I just checked item for item with my 49 pak from this past winter (Xmas/Dec 2016 release) it's the same 49 pak but if you skipped it then and regret it get it now - then it's time to get it with the FULL XTra style pak (all current Xtra styles) for $49

Or if you have the 49 pak just spring for the $29 all Xtra Styles pak

I noticed Callie posted a message today (August 04). Also there are explanation and video link on the updates page.

I guess I was faster than Marketing with my question!
