Can BIAB route a microphone being used for llive vocals alongside using BIAB live?

And can vst effects be used for the microphone part as well?

Thanks

I believe the answer to that is YES.

Although, it's your sound card or interface that will do the routing.... BB & RB as well as other DAW's will, or should be able to see the output from the soundcard/interface and allow you to assign it to the audio track in BB or some other DAW.

I don't often use the audio track in BB, but you should be able to assign the FX as needed. Perhaps someone who does use the audio track on a regular basis can elaborate on the use of FX in the audio track in BB. If not, Real Band will allow that as will a DAW.

Yes and Yes.

You can also punch in record

add harmonies and backing vocals

Add additional recorded live instruments

BIAB audio recording does all of these but with little control and merges the various tracks into a single track rather than allow mixing and balancing the tracks.

I think live vocals thru BIAB along with BIAB tracks would be just like we do when we record and use VST FX. You would need to use an ASIO driver which means you need an interface that uses an ASIO driver. You would also have to watch out for feedback/looping by muting/unmuting the appropriate drivers in your soundcard properties.

As an aside,
Not sure in BiaB, but in Realband you also have the option of hearing the track through the VST FX and still recording it dry.
This offers the option of hearing it with FX while recording, but being able to assign those same FX (or different ones) to the track later on.

A better option in my eyes; you have the option of changing the FX later when needed/desired, instead of being stuck with the actual recorded FX.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks Rharv, but I am not a fan of Realband tbh - it glitches out too many times for me...in odd unpredictable ways.

If I was going to use RB, I'd use Sonar live with wav files from BIAB.

I am thinking of using BIAB live with vocals as there are sometimes I feel (and the venue warrants it) that simply playing keys/bass and a guitar track is all that is needed. Using BIAB live means it is a snap to do this without needing to re-create wavs or mp3's or anything really. And frozen tracks load in an instant so it's fine for live work.

Just got to bite the bullet and give it a go!

What interface and driver do you use? You have Sonar so using RB as a DAW isn't practical..... but using RB to generate tracks for Sonar IS practical. That's what I do and how I use BB/RB.

BB: Write, compose, set song structure and form
RB: generate the tracks and export
Sonar: import the tracks, add live tracks and mix.

I don't know what M-Audio calls it but look for a feature called Direct or Real-time Monitoring.

haha, sorry Matt I have no issues with the I/F it is excellent and it does all I need it to. I was responding to rharvs post asking what I was using.

The issues wtih RB are not audio related haha! The random glitches are in re-generation and even first time generation of RT's. And a couple of other random things that I cannot recall.
