I had an old notebook computer with XP on it. I DLed Linux to a CD, formatted the drive and installed Linux. Then I put the Linux version of Firefox on it and ran it for a couple of years with no problems. The touch screen may not work, don't know, as my notebook had a keyboard. Mine was way before touch screens were even thought of!

The OS is a little different than Windows but if I can adapt to it I am certain that you can also. It isn't that hard of a transition.
