Hello, everybody

This is my newest vocaloid song.
I wrote it with full orchestration (changed from simple arrangement using RealTracks only) stimulated strongly by Noel’s newest post “Oh! Susanna Variations for Oboe and Flute” using the contrapuntal techniques.
I only used MIDI in this song.
Comments encouraged.
Have at it.

Title: MilkyWay
Vocal: 初音ミク (Miku Hatsune), Vocaloid

Link:

https://soundcloud.com/animarorecords/milkyway-miku

Style is HRPORK44.STY
Style MIDI Instruments are :
Bass (49) assigned to Contrabasses,
Piano (47) assigned to Celesta,
Guitar (45) a little modified and assigned to 2nd Violins, Violas, Cellos,
Strings (50) assigned to 4 French Horns,

Style is alberti.STY
Acoustic Piano (1) assigned to Concert Piano,

Other instruments (1st violins, Solo violin, 2 Flutes, Oboe, Harp, Glockenspiel, Triangle, Wind chime) by myself.

All instruments played with EastWest symphonic orchestra except Concert Piano played with Steingberg The Grand.

Summary and Background of lyrics:

This song was written based on the legend called Tanabata in Japan, in which the wish of a young girl for her lover is sung.

Tanabata is an event related to the stars. It is based on the legend that only once a year, Hikoboshi (Cow herder) and Orihime (Weaving Princess), two lovers, would be allowed to meet each other at the shores of the heavenly river. The moment would take place on the night of July 7th in the lunisolar calendar.

Hikoboshi and Orihime were husband and wife. They were so deeply in love with each other that they ended up neglecting their duties. As punishment, they were separated and only allowed to meet one another once a year.

On the night of 7th July of every year, people write their wishes on colorful paper strips and hang them on bamboo leaves praying they will come true.

In every region of Japan, Tanabata festivals are held around July 7th, where parades and performances are held at the venue.

Orihime’s star represents Vega located to the west of the Milky Way.
Hikoboshi’s star represents Altair located to the east of the Milky Way.
The heavenly River represents the Milky Way.

Best Regards.

Shigeki Adachi,

WOW!!! You've really excelled yourself with this creation. It's magnificent. Your writing is superb and your orchestration is beautiful. Even though I cannot understand Japanese, you've captured the mood of the legend of Hikoboshi and Orihime incredibly well. The vocaloid is a perfect fit.

I really, really enjoyed listening to this.

Regards,
Noel

Hello, Noel

Thank you very much for your taking the time to have a listen and to comment.
I am always encouraged by your warm comments.

I have lots of fun to write orchestrations just like you find counterpoint lots of fun.
Orchestration is also like a jigsaw puzzle.
4 notes of chord must be assigned to melody, bass, 1st counter melody and 2nd counter melody.
But I sometimes give priority to the flow of melodies.
The operation is definitely a puzzle.

Thanks again,

Shigeki Adachi

Even though you do a good job with vocaloid, I would love to hear a live singer on this. It's just tooooo GOOOOOD!! Your orchestration is absolutely top notch-I'm blown away! The melody is just lovely as well. You are doing some WONDERFUL stuff!! Take care. Greg

Ciao, Gianfranco

Many thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.
And I much appreciate your kind comments especially for Miku’s interpretation.
My DAW application is Cubase, so I use VOCALOID4 Editor for Cubase to edit Miku’s vocals.
However, basically I do not have too much fine adjustment.
I usually edit almost only the length of each note of melody.
Instead, for vocal volume adjustment I insert Waves Plug-ins (L1 limiter and Vocal Rider) to vocaloid track.

Thank you again,

Hello, David, floyd, Charlie and Greg

Many thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.
I much appreciate your warm comments and your continuous supports.

David,
What a marvelous comment!
I am very glad but I did not reach quite such level.

Greg,
I am sure I would like to make the human vocalist version if a singer suitable for this song will be found.
Finding a good singer is as difficult as finding a girlfriend.
I am really not good at persuading.

Best Regards.

Hello, Alyn, Rob & Anne-Marie

Thank you very much for your taking the time to have a listen and to comment.
I am so glad for your wonderful comments.
Yes, it is my dream to write a film music some day.
I wrote my wish on colorful paper strips and hang them on bamboo leaves on Tanabata night this year too.

Best Regards.

Hello, Janice & Bud

Many thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.
I much appreciate your kind words every time.
And I always thank BIAB.
BIAB has also many classical MIDI styles.
They always underlie my compositions.
It is not impossible for me to construct music without them.
Thank you again.

Best Regards.

Hi, thank you for your nice dreamy composition and for remembering me of the possibilities of the classical biab styles. I agree with you that finding a female singer is as difficult as finding a girlfriend. I never liked vocaloid but your Miku is very convincing nand emotional. Thanks

Hi

I've got 2 or 3 girls in my choir with stunning voices. If you want I could ask one of them to record the vocal. Normally, Cantonese, Mandarin or English, but still....
This is one of the girls doing her thing.
