For anyone interested in running Linux on a newer laptop, I would like to share this pleasant experience. I recently purchased ( about 4 months ago?) an Acer 5515 from Walmart so I could have a working copy of Vista for testing purposes. However, last week, my wife decided she wanted to use it for the internet, and since I'm not fond of running Windows on the internet, I decided I'd try to put Linux on it for a more secure internet experience. I say "try" because I figured I would have problems with the built in Broadcom WiFi device like many others have had.. To my surprise, the new PCLOS 2009 distribution found everything including the WIFI. All I had to do was replace the old HD with a new one (so I could keep Vista in pristine condition - no dual boot), load the PCLOS 2009 Live CD, check to see it found everything, and lastly click the install icon. I believe it is the easiest Linux installation I have ever experienced, and I thought, perhaps there were others on the forum considering Linux, who could benefit from hearing about this experience.
