Just curious to know if anyone has had any success with using biab for music production and have you gotten any placement in tv/movies

Got quite a few tunes made in BB/RB/Sonar that are in production libraries and several placements in a number of TV shows and made for TV documentary movies. Writing and recording quality matter. It has to be broadcast quality and the music has to be something they are looking for and can use in the situation. It also takes some luck and a library who actively plugs your music to the folks doing the shows. But yes... I've gotten some placements and I think there's a few others here also who have done likewise.

Something I might be interested in doing too in the future, so Thanks for info Guitarhacker.
I think I have read a few threads of yours before when you talked about this.
If I remember correctly its best to do short segments of music like 15, 30, 45 60 seconds each mainly in mono.
So how do I go about this, fire up biab, create mainly instrumentals in different style to the above times. Make sure that the mix is right and its broadcast quality. Do my research about the libraries to submit to, and take it from there.
I would imagine no real money to be made from this, its the Kudos thing knowing that your tune has been picked and knowing that your music is available for this purpose.
And then if a cheque does ever arrive no matter how small, the nice feeling of satisfaction of knowing that the music was used in a professional production.

Thanks for the info that's good to know especially if I can mix some original stuff and beef it up with BIAB. It's fun to read your PRO statement. It lists the songs they used, the show it was used in, how long the song segment was in the show and how much it earned for you.
It's sometimes only used for 5 seconds or less and earns you less than a nickle. I think the largest song earning for a single cue use was $2.57 where it was played in the background of the show for close to a minute.
Yeah, until you have thousands of cues being used the money is not the reason you do this. My first BMI check (which is taxable income) was enough for my wife and I to go have a happy meal at the golden arches with an apple pie for dessert.
You do it because you enjoy writing the cues... and you enjoy that your music is being used by someone else to set the scene and mood in a show or movie.
Yeah, it's possible to use BB/RB to do it all but it really helps if you can provide some live instrument in that cue. And the quality is paramount.

It's been a while now but, yeah, I got a few tunes that were composed and created in BB/RB placed into some TV shows and made for TV documentary films. The music used some or all of the tracks that were created in BB/RB. A few "reality TV shows" including Hollywood Hillbillies and Beverly Hills Pawn used some of my cues in several episodes each. I'd have to pull the BMI statement up, but I think both shows used my cues in 2 or 3 different episodes, and multiple times in each episode. And a series of made for TV documentary films from the series... Ten things you didn't know about_____. with placements in the TTYDKA Civil Rights and TTYDKA Texas episodes. Approximately 70 individual cues were used between those shows and movies..... varying from 5 second cues to several that were over a minute each. The thing is, no one bothers to call or email that your music is being used. I guess they're just too busy. So, the way you find out, unless you happen to be watching the show when it airs.... is to wait 9 months or so later when the PRO statement and check show up in the mail. When they become available on Netflix, maybe then I can hear how they used the music I wrote.

If they are going to use it for the main theme song (intro and credits) they let you know ahead of time, otherwise it's pretty mush a trust thing.
There was a boating show in London/Windsor/Toronto area on Saturday mornings where the theme song used BiaB/RB tracks. I only know because I did the production side and generated/comp'd a few of the tracks.
Ed Bulmer (forum member who has been absent lately) gets the writing credit for that one.
FWIW, all the production work was done in RB, using various VSTs including Ozone of course..
I still have the seq files on a drive around here somewhere.

Yes... if your music is used in a major way... as you say, the theme song and predominately throughout, or exclusively.... then yes, they are in touch with you beforehand and chances are really good you're an active writer for that show on a paid basis plus performance royalties. In my case, it was incidental use and no notice was given.

No...I don't have the audiophile version. The normal version has excellent quality and that's what matters. As long as the mix is balanced and EQ'd properly for broadcast they can use it.
