I hate to sound like the hall monitor again but people need to read the Sticky at the top of this forum:

Tech S.O.S. - General tech help for computers or music equipment.

The purpose of this forum is for people to get assistance from the community for any computer related or music equipment tech question. Anything remotely tech or musical is fair game.
Examples:
- my guitar sound has a buzz when I plugin to my guitar
- which type of guitar strings are best for a telecaster?
- my iPhone won't charge -why?
- what's a good set of home speakers for a living room.
- should I buy an android or iPhone?
- what's a good entry level saxophone to buy?
- is a 4K TV worth it?

Note: This is an "Off-Topic" help forum. For assistance with Band-in-a-Box and other PG Music Products, you should post on the appropriate "PG Music Product" forum
.

This forum was a great idea but already it has a bunch of PG related questions and give it another month and it's going to be useless.

When someone asks a question like that don't answer them, just explain this and point them to the Biab forum or whatever.

ESPECIALLY PG STAFF! What are you guys doing answering those questions here?

Bob

I agree. Perhaps when a PGMusic-specific topic appears, the staff could move the post to one of the appropriate forums.

And we the user community should state (nicely) to please post this in one of the appropriate forums.

I realize sometimes people make mistakes and don't realize which forum they are currently in (and with so many more forums now, well...). I know I have been guilty of that. But we can definitely help steer people in the right direction.

The same applies to the tips and tricks forum. It is not a forum for asking questions, it is a forum for providing, well, tips and tricks. We should also help self-police that.

Maybe we could use the "report post" feature, not to say it's spam or whatever, but to let the staff know that the post is in the wrong place.

That being said, we should be careful not to drive new people away just because they made a mistake.

I think it is just the tittle Help! Tech S.O.S = quick I need some help with this problem, maybe a rename Help! Computers & Music Equipment

is a 4K TV worth it?
yes a cheap one to use with your pc/mac if your video card supports the resolution, preferably with HDMI 2.0 to support 50-60Hz, as how many TV stations broadcast in 4K, only see 4K youtubes.

Actually I will comment on the 4K TV question. I needed a new big screen because my 50" Sony was getting old. It was a now antique "standard" high def 720P. Still looked good for TV and movies but was just ok as a computer monitor. My new set is a Sharp Aquos 60" and I was somewhat worried it might be too big for my room. How wrong I was! It's all about the upconversion of regular HD sources to a simulated 4K. It's unbelievable. As a PC monitor this forum, other websites and of course all my music software including Biab/RB looks just great. The pic is very smooth, no little jaggies or anything on this text for example.

That's the reason to get a 4K set even if pure 4K sources are still scarce. When you research them pay attention to what the reviewers say about the quality of the upconversion because they're not all equal.

4K is the talk of the industry. It's all over the trade mags I get.

More better good stuff.... I'll likely get one when the technology relegates 4K to the antique heap of history and they are on sale for $149.95 at Walmart.

4K is great, as long as the industry is broadcasting 4K material.

The demo's you see in Walmart probably look better than many things your local station has available to broadcast.

Re-runs of The Beverly Hillbillies ain't gonna cut it. Are you with me?

Not true Trev. I'm not talking about antique shows like the Hillbillys I'm talking about current hi def. Reread what I wrote about upconversion of standard 1080P sources. If you're not into high quality TV displays that's fair enough but do you understand what I mean by upconversion? It's the same type of thing when people were buying higher end DVD players years ago that had good upconversion of the then standard DVD resolution of 480P to the then new 1080P. That made a big difference then and the upconversion to 4K makes just as big of a difference now.

I admit you have to be a bit of a video nerd to appreciate this but it's no different than us wanting to keep our audio at the highest possible quality when the average person is happy listening to low bit rate MP3's. It's exactly the same thing. If you don't care about a good, clean pristine TV display fine but there's a pretty big difference between watching a standard hi def picture and that same hi def source on my new TV with the upconversion. And I mean a major difference. You can't even see any scan lines or pixels at all on my set. None. Go look at your TV. Get within six feet of it and it's almost unwatchable because of the scan lines and pixels. Yet my picture is extremely smooth and sharp. And this is right now using standard sources not true 4K. I can only imagine what that will look like.

This is why virtually every tech writer there is is telling people if they need a new TV make sure it's 4K.
