Hi

Entering slash chords does not seem possible.
I'm on a Swedish keyboard and I can enter slashes either shift+7 or via a slash key in the numeric pad area if I'm e.g. in the input field of giving a title to a song.

In the chord sheet it does not work, ordinary chords are ok, but trying a slash simply doesn't work.

What could be the problem?
It's definitely a software issue, either a true bug or a corrupt file somewhere ..., but it works ok in BIAB.

Anyone who has had a similar problem?

cheers Thomas

Thomas,

With older versions of BIAB (and I'm assuming this might be what is happening to RB), PG Music's programming did not seem to map symbols explicitly. Rather, it seems that the key location on a US-layout keyboard was mapped.

With the above in mind, on my US layout keyboard, the forward slash is the one I've highlighted below. It's in the lowercase position so shift is not required. Try this.

If that key doesn't work, simply experiment with one key at a time. Sooner or later, you'll find which one does the job.

I have BIAB/RB 2016 and slash chords work fine.

Lastly, it might pay to check that you have the most recent update of the program found here.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel

i'm on RB 2016 current version. The slash is decoded correctly when entering a title but not when entering a slash chord, i.e. this is another input field that doesn'tbehave im the same way.
Guess I have check with the support

Thomas,

It's possible that text entry and chord-sheet entry are two different processes. Text entry is most likely character based while chord-sheet entry might be US-keyboard key-location based.

Over the years, the problem you mention above has been brought up many times in the BIAB forum with keyboard layouts from the UK, Spain, Scandinavia, etc.

Relating the "/" to a keyboard location on the US keyboard has always solved this problem. Whether or not this is the case with Realband, I can't say. All I can say is that it's worth trying as a solution.

Let us know what support say so that others who have this problem will be able to find out how to solve it.

All the best,
Noel

Hello Thomas
I’m using a swedish keybord, and I get the slash with the one I’ve highlighted, in both Band in a Box and RealBand.

It's in the lowercase position so shift is not required.

Thanks, I'm surprised it actually worked.
Thought I'd been all over the keyboard with all combinations of shift/alt/alt gr.
Thanks Noel, your suggestion was also in the ball park, but I was probably convinced it needed a shift/alt combination.

Still cannot understand why the "normal" shift+7 or the dedicated slash key in the numeric pad do not work.
If these can be decoded in the song title input field why on earth should it not work in the chord sheet?
The only reason I can think of would be some constraints from the very early days of this program.

It must be a simple programming fix for PGMusic to eliminate this confusion for some users.
I.e. I am still confused but at a higher level smile

cheers Thomas

Bra att det fungerade för dig med.
Glad it worked for you too.
I think the upper number row is for chord definition, like 2 gives (C2) 3 gives (C# sharp) 4 gives (Csus) and 7 gives (C7) and so on, regardless you press the Shift key or not.

(Thank you Noel for the picture)

person,

You did a great job editing the graphic!

Thomas,

I've let PG Music know about this and have referred them to this thread. As mentioned in one of the earlier posts in the topic, it's not restricted to the Swedish layout but occurs with other non-US layouts as well.

All's well that ends well.

Regards,
Noel
