Here is my week 40 track, Come the Early Spring. https://52tracksblog.com/2016/10/06/track-40-come-the-early-spring/I used the Xtra Style Longing as is for this song. This includes bass guitar, mandolin, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, a synth pad, and drums. A very haunting, dream-like arrangement with the pedal steel and fiddle floating in and out of the mix. The synth pad is below the surface until the very end, glueing things together. Thanks for listening. Fred

Fred,
The style gives a brooding feel to this which fits in very well with the tale. It has a Fairport/Pentangle folk ballad sound I really like... very good!

Robert Thanks, Robert! I loved Pentangle. Jansch and Redbourne were spectacular guitarists. Fred

Fred,
How do you keep writing these songs? A good song reminiscent of Richard Thompson, Fairport and Pentangle with their more accessible songs.
A really enjoyable, relaxing listen.

Fred,
Excellent job of capturing the sound/feel/write of the style and era.
This is an excellent write. (Not a style that I ever spent a lot of time listen to - was never a "folk" fan). Particularly good job of "sticking the landing" - hitting your hook - at the end of EACH verse...
"She pulled her hair she pulled her sleeve She pulled the final string “I’m to wed the miller’s son Come the Early Spring”
.... like that!
